Crawford needs to prove himself more in the 154 pound division, before he even shows up as a serious threat on the radar of Canelo Alvarez'.

Crawford mentioning Canelo's name works for him even though he knew there's no certainty in the fight happening. Not even any intention to talk to Canelo's team. It's okay, he's a wealthy man. It provides him a pause or excuse to take his time, enjoy the accolades, loiter around leisurely. He obviously is not in a rush for another fight. He fights once a year, remember?

It's not necessarily clout chasing. Most important, as already theorized, is it shuts down the curious onlookers who bugs him asking about Boots Ennis, and now new prospects like Tzsyu, Fundora, Ortiz, and others. People need to make a clear distinction on whether one wants a certain fight for money or someone who genuinely wants it for legacy believing he could really win, with the assumption that he'll get paid well, anyways. Or wanting the fight not only because of the guaranteed compensation but also the value that would be added to his stock in his subsequent fights. In other words, it's not only about the retirement check, but an addition to his investment. Which is long-term.
Berlanga, not necessarily the best example, never mentioned anything about money. Virtually all of Canelo's past opponents were offered the fight and they took it. Probably with the exception of Golovkin. Again no mention of the money part. Our friend Jermell Charlo took the offer and we never heard he wanted specific amount of dollars. Of course, Crawford's case is different. But what exactly does the fight do to Canelo? Why would anyone expect him to chase Crawford?
So what is Crawford waiting for? Why rely on Turki to make the fight, why not talk directly to Canelo people?

Both Tyson Fury and Canelo Alvarez have both popped dirty for banned steroid substances: (Nandrolone and Clenbuterol).

In addition, they both used the cross contamination excuse. Tyson Fury’s blamed his dirty testing on ingesting Wild boar meat.

While Saul Alvarez blamed his dirty testing on eating contaminated beef.
