I'm not saying they were. I'm refuting the idea that fighting Benavidez is a legacy defining fight for Canelo. Canelo should fight him over other lesser options, like a catchweight with Crawford, but he's not a legacy fight at this point. He's only 27 years old.

Ward never got the accolades that some lessor fighter did and he can be a little testy about it. As for Canelo...there nothing noble about moving to the US for money, millions of Mexicans do it and you absolutely F&^king hate them for it so lets not BS one another.

I assume you weren't around when Ward was active because you'd know that Beterbiev, Stevenson and Bivol were unwilling to fight the boogieman, only Andre Ward was willing to fight prime Kovalev. And since we're on the subject, every single trainer and expert on the planet agree that Andre Ward would have blasted Canelo out. The only people that dispute that are...lets just say less than expert or just dumb ass, slow, ******eds.

Unless Benavidez has a fantastic run then it would affect Canelo's legacy because he avoided him. If he looses along the way years from it people will forget about him.

Regardless that is the fight that the boxing world wants to watch and Canelo is the only one impeding that it happens. Maybe some Saudi money should get thrown in the mix.

when? 6 and a half years ago you mean? since then hes beaten the #2 guy in the division. that holds a lot more weight than what happened 6 and a half years ago. this is like floyd ducking marg all over again with people saying "marg has 3 losses floyd doesnt have to fight him!" then floyd goes and fights sharmba mitchell and zab coming off a loss while ignoring margs recent accomplishments and #1 status.

well for canelo and floyd fans they kind of staked their claim to being "ped crusaders" so to get caught cheating should be important to them...of course its not anymore but that was a fun reversal. pacs only great because hes on peds! canelo gets caught doing peds...whateverrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr hes still great

They fought the same opponent and Canelo did better. And Benavidez was even 2 divisions bigger then Plant.

I want to see them fight but Benavidez is moving up and I can't picture him coming back down. So who will you blame then? Canelo not moving up or Ben not coming back down???

I can see why Canelo did this. Abel gonna get some 1st hand knowledge in Benavidez next fight as he is the other guys trainer....
