GGG holds the record for championship defenses in the MW division. Go check his record in Boxrec or wherever. He fought the top contenders of his era and, significantly, KO'd almost all of them. Regardless of the official decisions, most objective fans agree that GGG gave at least as good as he got in 2/3 matches against a fighter who is presently regarded as the best of his era. Golovkin is an undeniable talent for fans who know the sport. To suggest that he ducked inferior fighters for fear of losing is Sid-Knee level delusion.
You've repeatedly claimed that GGG remained at home, or in Europe, while he waited for the middleweight 'Fab Four' (Pavlik, Taylor, Martinez & Williams) to retire, but why did he have to live or train in the US to fight any of those guys? The reason he didn't get those fights wasn't because he didn't live in the U.S. but rather because he had poor connections. You seem to know very little about Golovkin's career. To start, coming up in a Central Asian/Eastern European nation, Golovkin had an extensive amateur career (345-5) and didn't turn pro till he was 24. When he did turn pro, he signed with Germany-based Universum which was a player in Europe, but little more. Unfortunately for Golovkin, Universum failed to even match him up with their own MW titlists, Felix Sturn and Sebastian Zbik, so Golovkin ditched them when his contract expired and sought new management and trainers in the US. GGG made his US debut with his new team in 2012 at the age of 30.
By that time, Kelly Pavlik (as you note) was already retired, but if you followed his career, the final nail had already been nailed in Pavlik's career two years earlier by Sergio Martinez, and he retired on a whimper fighting nobodies.- Btw, what 'pedigree' is this that you speak of with Kelly Pavlik? His entire career (amateur and pro) is built off beating one guy. He was a good fighter but he has no real boxing pedigree, especially when you're comparing him to someone like GGG.
Paul Williams was also out of the picture, having been paralyzed in his accident.
Jermain Taylor was still technically fighting in 2012, but his days as an elite fighter were well past him after crashing out of the the SMW Super Six tournament three years prior.
Sergio Martinez was the only one of your Fab Four who was still an elite fighter when GGG emerged on the scene. Martinez didn't duck GGG because GGG had no real name recognition until his 2012 HBO fight, but by that point, Martinez' career was winding down as well. Had GGG gotten the opportunity to fight Martinez then, he would have buried him, far worse than tiny Miguel Cotto did.
Anyway, this is getting long-winded again. My general point is that people like you can make up any old narrative you want to discredit fighters you don't like, with no regard or accounting of any actual facts other than the ones you cite. 'Kelly Pavlik retired in July 2012, then GGG had his first fight in the US two months later unequivocally means that GGG hid out in Europe and ducked the beast. Good grief, but carry on as you like. I wasn't kidding when I stated that GGG sh.its bigger than Kelly Pavlik. He literally once took a sh.it bigger than Kelly Pavlik.
and you talk about the Martinez that fought cotto likenthat was prime Martinez ROFL. He was down to one leg. That was his last fight they went into the fight knowing they’d lose that’s why they fought cotto cause he was the biggest available payday. Prime Martinez was light years better than anyone golovkin every fought. You’re obviously young and didn’t watch these fights. You never seen Pavlik fight have you? He would absolutely bury golovkin. Size power chin reach advantage great jab even better right hand. I’m still laughing you think bumlovkin has KOd anything but can drivers his career. His best KO at his own weight is probably David Lemieux. Wrap ur head around that lmao

His career was a DUD. Any fan of the sport knows golovkin was a huge disappointment. Refused to take even ONE risk in his career and consistently tried to fight smaller fighters for paydays. I.e. cotto/mayweather/canelo

This is just wrong. Martinez and cotto were on the last fight or 2 of their careers when golovkin started trying to target them. You all claim he was mismanaged by K2. Well I’d counter that’s a joke. Funny how the timing lines up just right how when he came over the Mw division was basically done right? K2 mismanaged him? Funny his manager Tom loeffler is still the head of K2 promotions lol. If they mismanaged him so bad why he still with loeffler? Lmao. Dudes a fraud. A lot of todays boxers are. Golovkin would have lost to ODLH hopkins tito Pavlik Martinez, he’d beat cotto cause he was that much bigger but golovkin wasn’t some all time great. He’s a footnote in boxing history not a stapleLAchargers373 likes this.

See you in the next thread where you can prove to me that Roy Jones ducked Sven Ottke.Last edited by LAchargers373; 02-26-2024, 04:25 PM.

I’m not saying that I’m just saying that ggg has never fought any real competition. You can hate on Pavlik all you want his strength of schedule was much stronger than golovkins. We don’t know how good ggg could’ve been or what he could’ve done. We saw him fight against one elite opponent his own weight his whole career and went 0-2-1 against him. Every great MW champion moves up in weight every single one of the greats. GGG ain’t do that. His supporters are delusional. 0 elite wins despite some opinions. 1 weight world champion. 0 wins over future HOFamers. Only 1 future HOFamer even faced. I don’t know why u making excuses. Facts are facts. You know…even if he felt he was robbed against canelo and many do…why did he not fight ANYONE else? other great fighters HOFamers have worse robberies on their records and it’s less of a big deal because they faced other HOFamers and beat them so there’s no question of their greatness but ggg never did that. He never did anything lol. If he had fought wars like he was offered or tried to move up and get a belt at SMW or moved up to take on kovalev like his trainer said he could easily why did he not do that? To be remembered as a great all the others before him and even canelo be doing it now all the greats do it why do u consider golovkin great without ever doing that? Without ever having 1 legit elite win?
Now tell me your take on Sven Ottke.
**On a final note, whether you're a fan of his or not, you must at least admit that he had a Top 5 thread for thread best fight robe in the sport, and that it's going to look pretty amazing in that display box in Canastota.**
