As Beterbiev fan , I would say he would have trouble against RJJ’s speed for starters
He’d be in and out without Artur noticing it
He’d have a puncher’s chance and as we all know Roy’s chin wasn’t the greatest
The only character that I would believe could beat a prime Roy would have to be Calzaghe , add the fact that he was a southpaw and clearly overwhelming fighter

A lot of people on this thread are from different age groups and saw various light heavyweight champions from different eras. Some fighters are Bob Foster, Ezzard Charles, Michael Spinks, Dwight Qawi, Roy Jones Jr and Beterbiev. BTW, Holyfield was a cruiserwieight NOT a light heavyweight. They were all great. All of them had a combination of movement, speed, power and ring generalship. Everyone who saw these fighters will say that they were the best ever. I will say that Beterbiev is the best at this era that we are in right now. I can say one thing though for 100% certainty and that is that Beterbiev would've lost against Jones Jr in his absolute prime. Jones would not be standing in the corner letting Beterbiev hurt him with his killer blows. I think that he would have caught Jones once or twice and Jones would have been on his bicycle and took it to him for the rest of the fight. I got jones Jr with a 11th round KO or decision. Roy Jones Jr. is his absolute prime around 1992-2001 would have been too much for Beterbiev. However, those all time great fighters would have beaten up Beterbiev as well.
Lets all keep things in perspective.

why didn't he fight McClellan or any of the heavy hitting brits at the time? Nigel Benn would've had Roy outta there.
nigel Benn wouldn't have laid a glove on roy. How many fights have you seen benn almost knocked out in first 1-3 rounds. Roy was the best of the best he was avoided like the plague and this 'glass chin' you talk about was good enough to go all the way up to heavyweight and win a title. He was streets ahead of the rest in his dayLast edited by allen23; 01-25-2024, 12:29 PM.Brother Mouzone likes this.

I hated Roy as a fighter & commentator. I used to watch all weight classes but after the super-six i started losing interest in other weights outside HW due to all the catchweights, etc… But Roy Jones was untouchable for years. I got all his & Tyson fights on my old black box so i never paid for cable or PPV events. Nobody listened to me when i said he would never be the same after he bulked up to fight John Ruiz. I was the happiest guy on the planet when Tarver pasted him in 2 rounds in their second fight. Roy never should have taken that fight or he should have stayed around the HW limit after as he could have fought smaller HWs like Byrd & maybe a rematch with Toney at CW. He never had the same reflexes again & that no defence/hands at his hip stance totally exposed him once he lost a bit of reflexes & speed. He became easier to hit. He was all reflexes & speed. Looking back he really was the best fighter on the planet by a country mile for many years.Last edited by joe strong; 01-25-2024, 12:46 PM.

Roy going up to fight Ruiz was a game changer for his career and never returned to form
