  • Shane was interviewed recently and here's what he had to say.

Q: After you challenged him, a week later, Mayweather wished you good luck in your career which seemed to indicate he’s not interested in fighting you. He also mentioned that he challenged you twice, and he claims that you turned him down back in 1999 and again in 2006. Did you really turn him down?

A: Like I said, he’s really a liar. He likes to lie a lot. In 1999 there’s a film where he’s fighting in Michigan when he was fighting at 130 and I was fighting at 135, and I asked him, like when HBO does the prefight analysts talk to the fighters before they fight. I talked to him, and hopefully it’s recorded somewhere—I think it was on FX—I asked him, “Are you planning on coming up to lightweight to fight me?” And he said, “No,” He had no intention of coming to lightweight to fight me, he wanted to beat Carlos Monzon’s record. He didn’t want to come to lightweight. That’s when I jumped from lightweight to welterweight to fight Oscar De La Hoya. That was the first incident that he’s talking about, so he turned me down in 1999.

Now, the other time he’s talking about is when I fought three times—one, two, three, back-to-back-to-back—and they tried to rush me to fight him right away, like two or three months later. I said, give me a month, and we’ll do it like, I think it was in January—I said, “We’ll do it in January”. They wanted to do it in like November or December, and I said, “Give me a month and we’ll do it in January or February.” They didn’t want to do that. So they chose to fight Oscar De La Hoya. I said, “Go ahead and fight Oscar, and if you beat Oscar, then let’s get busy. Let’s do this.” He beat Oscar—he didn’t want to fight me.

He’s been turning me down. I hate when he continues to say, “Oh, he turned me down because of a tooth ache”. Yeah. I got head butted in that fight that and my tooth was loose that night. They asked me to fight Mayweather and I said, “Give me an extra month, and I’ll fight him.” He didn’t want to fight me, which was cool. He could go and fight Oscar because that’s more money. Okay. That’s cool, but after that fight if you win—fight me. He didn’t want to do that. He chose to retire or fight somebody else. I’m getting tired of that lie! They need to wipe that lie out of there. The reporters and stuff, they keep saying it, so that lie needs to be talked about.

    • Will Mosley Accept Mayweather Challenge

While Mosley (43-4, 36 knockouts) had reason to celebrate, Mayweather (36-0) had other thoughts.

“I’m going to the gym right now when I leave,” said Mayweather, who lives in Las Vegas. “All Shane Mosley did was motivate me. As soon as I leave here, I’m not going home. I’m going to get my bag, and go right to the gym and train.

“I would love to fight Mosley. He makes too many mistakes. The punches come too wide. He uses a pity-pat jab. If you come too wide, I see everything coming, no matter how fast you are. I’ve been hit by some of the best fighters in boxing and walked right through it. It’s not what you can take, it’s what you can dish out. And I’m known for dishing out whippings.”

Mayweather has the confidence that comes from being unbeaten, but Mosley seems to have reached a point in which talent and experience have meshed.

Saturday’s fight was far more one-sided than the first Mosley-Vargas encounter, in February, when Mosley won on a 10th-round technical knockout. That fight was halted because Vargas had a grotesquely swollen left eye, although he was rallying, with a chance to win by decision if the fight had gone 12 rounds.

In the rematch, Vargas looked older than his 28 years, perhaps forever drained by the brutal knockout losses to Félix Trinidad in 2000 and to Oscar De La Hoya in 2002. Vargas (26-4) did not sound ready to retire, but his reputation as an elite fighter has been damaged.

“Congratulations to Shane; it was his night,” said Vargas, who admitted that he had not seen the knockdown punch until he watched it later on a television replay.

De La Hoya has vowed not to fight again until at least 2007, making Mosley the next logical opponent for Mayweather. But a Mosley-Mayweather match is not guaranteed, just because fans may want to see it.

Mosley wants to wait until next year; Mayweather wants to fight in November. Even if they agree on a date, a weight and a location, the financial terms could be even harder to resolve.

Mayweather saw no reason why a fight against Mosley should not materialize.

“He has earned the right to fight me,” Mayweather said. “Mosley’s been ducking me for 10 years now. I’ve been chasing Shane Mosley forever. I can’t keep chasing the guy. I just want to beat the best fighters out there. People talk about me fighting Antonio Margarito next. Antonio Margarito is not a household name. It’s about business. We need guys who can generate pay-per-view numbers.

“I got to talk to Jin, she runs the show,” said Mayweather, referring to Mosley’s wife. “We can make the fight happen. She’s the boss of their household. I’m the boss of my household.”

        • As it Goes:
Floyd Mayweather vs. Juan Manuel Marquez
          Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao
          Floyd Mayweather vs. Miguel Cotto

By that time it will be 2011...
and Shane will be too old..
          and fighters like
Timothy Bradley, Victor Ortiz, and Andre Berto will be more appealing fights than a fight with a old ass mosley.

Mosley should have taken the fight in 2006, 2005,2004, and 1999

Now it is too late and Floyd shouldnt have to turn down more lucrative fights
just to appease an old money hungry needing mosley.

If Mosley Really wanted to fight Floyd he should have did it years ago when he was in his prime and on the up side of his career.

from 1999-2006 Mosley Brush Floyd off...
Now it is 2009 he is desperate and out of his prime and now he is calling floyd's name.

          • If you don't believe Floyd is waiting for the winner of Pacquiao/Cotto, you're on something. Too much money to be made, not to.

And he doesn't need Shane. It'd be nice to see for us fans and for boxing, but Floyd doesn't need Shane, Shane needs Floyd to help pad his pockets.

            • another day, another "Mayweather is a ***** thread".

You can set your clocks by these types of threads.

Has there been any other time in boxing history when one fighter was so afraid of everyone else in his weightclass?

Shane Mosley Never (ill say again) NEVER tested positive for any usage of steroids EVER. He only admitted freely that he on ONE occasion met with Conte one time . Thus being the reason he never was found guilty and he also was willing to testify against the Dr! You try to make yourself look smart in the same you do a great job of looking like a moron. He admitted using something he didnt know was steroids once. Even though he NEVER was tested positive. You blowing out like you know hes guilty like you assume Marg cheated with Cotto. You are an assumption gossip whore!

LMAO@ He only met with Conte once..lol

"Boxer "Sugar" Shane Mosley testified in 2003 that he injected himself with the notorious doping agent EPO as he prepared for his light-middleweight title fight against Oscar De La Hoya, according to grand jury transcripts and doping calendars reviewed by the Daily News"

Mosley has admitted publicly and under oath that he used steroids and EPO, but has denied knowing that the drugs were banned or illegal.

When asked if he had gotten EPO from Conte, Mosley replied: "Yes, the hematocrit."

"And that's something you actually inject into yourself?" he was asked by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeff Nedrow.

"I think it's right by your stomach, yes," Mosley said, indicating where the drug is often injected.

                  • Hopefully Floyd is just talking smack because he definitely
needs a Mosley and or Cotto fight to make his claim to be
                    the greatest.
