Hmmm, Hopkins also never fought at 161, 162, 163, 164, 165, 166 & 167 so obviously he wouldn't of been competitive at those weights either, huh Einstein? Some people are so limited at their comprehension levels huh? By your logic if pacquiao would of never been a good featherweight if he skipped it. Why dont you go back to MSNBC and FOX news so you dont have to think for yourself. Cause you OBVIOUSLY cant.
If Canelo Beats Beanvidez he's clearly the best 168 of all time

you realized that’s like what max 100-1000 ppl? Again you’re working against millions and millions of casual ppl who think Canelo got the W when they read it on boxrec/wiki
Good luck manComment

There aren’t many people right now or in the history of 168 that beat Canelo. Facts. No Euro the likes of Froch, Kessler beat Canelo. Nor do they have better resumes, not even close. Ward with his boring ugly style would give Canelo problems and if he were to eek out a victory it would be by robbery or cheating like he did with Kovalev.Comment

You’re asking if Pacquaio would have been good at Featherweight or not if he skipped it. Well he DIDN’T skip it so we don’t need to speculate.
A more appropriate (illogical) comparison would be ranking Pacquaio at Bantamweight ahead of Jofre, Olivares, Ortiz, Panama Al Brown, Harada, Escobar etc despite the fact he NEVER fought at that weight. Would you do that too?
How could you possibly rank someone at a weight class that never fought at that weight class? How could that logically make sense in your brain?
Why stop at Hopkins over Canelo? Why not Monzon? Robinson? Hagler? Hell why stop there? Why not Mayweather? Mike Tyson? Let’s just rank anyone who’s never fought there aswell.
Hopkins never fought at that weight class, ******, You can’t rank him there historically above people like Canelo that not only fought there, became undisputed there and essentially cleaned the whole division out.

As I stated before in this thread, Carl Froch has a better resume than Alvarez at 168 pounds 'And fought at a higher level throughout his entire career'.
Joe Calzaghe has beaten better fighters than Alvarez at 168 pounds 'Chris Eubank Senior, even at that stage of his career when he fought Calzaghe. He was better than all the fighters Alvarez has beaten at 168 pounds'.
Eubank Senior, Robin Reid, Sakio Bika, Byron Mitchell, Charles Brewer, Jeff Lacy, Kessler.
Seriously, people get carried away in the moment fighters like Caleb Plant, are just mere current former World Champions. Fighters like John Ryder are domestic to high end European level fighters, who have benefited from being based in the UK and affiliated with great promoters.
Be honest with yourselves, Liam Smith, Amir Khan, just imagine what real hardcore all-time great middle to super middle weights would of done to them in a boxing fight.
Alvarez is a great fighter, but what makes him great is his entire career combined 'And the fact that he has been able to capitalized on this below par era skill for skill in the middle to Super Middle Weight Divisions.
Note: There is no way back in the 90's or early 2000's, would Canelo Alvarez be able to just waltz up and down the weight divisions 'Without coming into contact with a fighter who stylistically is a extremely difficult fight for him'.
Overall I just think in certain sections of today's society, people get carried away in the moment. You only have to watch other sports or just give attention to the music or entertainment industry to understand what I am talking about i.e Every new up and coming sports star is the Greatest of all time, G.O.A.T this G.O.A.T that 'That terminology is thrown about too easily these days, were as in the past it took a considerable amount of achievement and intense analysis were even a average joe on the street to start speaking of athletes in this manner'.
Boxing fans have always been extremely critical, but? Now I think certain folk are not so much 'And they to get carried away in the moment'. We have seen this with Tyson Fury, I would say Fury's hardcore fans and cronies combined with the media has been the worst case of this getting carried away in the moment etc.

No it wouldn't. Not even close. Ward has a better resume. Froch has a better resume. Calzaghe has a better resume. Roy Jones win over Toney alone is more impressive than anything Canelo has done at 168.Last edited by joseph5620; 12-09-2023, 12:31 PM.Comment

Not sure if Roy Jones 1 win is enough.Comment

Basically saying "Canelo would have the best resume if he didn't duck and if he won fantasy fights for real"?
Off the top of my head so I may be forgetting some, the best wins at 168
Roy>Toney
Calzaghe>Kessler
Ward>Froch
Kessler>Froch
Ward>Kessler
Froch>Bute
Froch>Kessler
Collins>Eubank
Benn>McClellan
So at least if Canelo does finally face Benavidez, he'd have one of the top 10 wins in the history of the division. But he'd still be behind RJ, Calzaghe, Ward imo.Comment

It’s the best single win, sure. But we can say that about so many guys.
Ruben Carter’s win over Emile Griffith is better than any single win Hagler had, or Hopkins had, or Golovkin had.
I think Canelo has to be ranked ahead of Roy Jones at 168 historically, surely. Unless were factoring in H2H scenario, then that changes it.Comment
