Obviously he's interested in the trinket. He's behaving like Gervonta Davis, going for a Mario Barrios instead of a Josh Taylor. His fans give him credit for that, but very few others did or do.
I'm all in favor of Canelo doing legacy fights, but historically, cleaning out the division and demonstrating dominance means more than a random cherry picked belt that's as quickly vacated. I get it. It's about as low risk and high reward a fight as he's got left, and I'll be frank, he's either lost a step or he and Reynoso need to step up their game. I still can't believe neither of them made any adjustments in the Bivol fight.
If he wants to demonstrate greatness, IMO the way to do that is to take out Beterbiev. If he really wants cruiserweight, Opetaia is the man in the division.
I think now is the time to take the big guys, before Beterbiev gets any older, and before Canelo gets too old to take challenges. I do think he should clean out his division, and put the Benavidez talk to sleep. I don't care about Charlo and Andrade at all. They have no resumes to speak of, but the winner of Benavidez v Morrell will rightly be looked at as the champion to be, and he's gonna need to take care of that business at the very least next year, if he's not going to do it this year.
