Benaviedez is high risk and zero reward. All he gets from beating Bena is a few Bena fans eating craw. He wants to go after an easy belt to solidify his legacy. If he wins at CW don't be surprised if he goes after Usyk.
Do Canelo fans finally admit he is ducking Benavidez?

He rejected a pretty good deal against the best at 168 and got rejected to fight against the best of 175, of course he wants to find a way of the predicament that he is not fighting the best at the divisions he fought (while ignoring other top contenders) by fighting a (declining) champion at a higher division.
If he were to lose, it be a super middleweight losing to a champion at cruiserweight so the fans can't discriminate him, if Canelo wins he conquers five divisions. It's a win-win for him. Alvarez is likely attempting to get a big win from this to create an incentive for a rematch against Bivol before retiring.Last edited by Malvado; 06-14-2023, 07:44 AM.Comment

Money isn’t something Canelo NEEDS. He wants to be remembered sort of how people will remember Pacquiao being a 5-6 division champion. All of PAC’s belted fights didn’t involve big money
Canelo vs Benavidez is a far more box office lucrative fight than Bivol or Jack..... that is worth more than anything Bivol or Jack present. Bivol presents a borderline impossible task of redemption and Jack presents a belt that the public already knows is meaningless.
Not to mention fighting Benavidez will be the first time in Canelo's career giving the public the fight they/we want to see when we want to see it.Comment

From a business perspective Canelo is making $40-50 million no matter who he fights.
I think it makes more sense on Cinco de Drinko next May as that’s the biggest fight weekend of the year and two Mexican fighters would do a big number.
I do think it happens eventually.Comment

Legacy is made by fighting the top opponents. He hasn't cleaned out his division. That's going to be remembered. If he really wanted the Bivol fight at 175, there's a straightforward way to get that, which is to target the winner of Beterbiev v Smith. You think Mauricio won't rubber stamp that and Arum wouldn't gladly accept? And if he somehow managed to beat whoever wins that (Beterbiev likely), he's got everything that Bivol wants at 175, and he's ALREADY got another huge legacy defining win. And then the Bivol fight would be for undisputed in a second division. We all know why he's not going for that option though. Don't think he's even sent an offer.
If he was really daring to be great at cruiserweight, why's he not going for Opetaia? Because it's a cherry pick, ala Tank Davis. It's very much like taking on Barrios instead of Taylor. His fans will love it, and his detractors aren't going to be impressed.Comment

Manny was a 8 division WC, see even you don't remember lol. Its not that important its just bragging rights. Legacy comes from who you beat.Comment
