I like JJ but that, literally, makes no sense. You trained for this fight. You knew he was a southpaw. Didn't you, like, spar southpaws? If JJ decides to carry on I think he is going to have to change trainers, it all seems a bit amateurish in the JJ camp.

He trains under Ismael Salas who has trained many southpaws and probably has unrivalled success going head-to-head vs them (pro and amateur). He couldn't have had a better trainer by his side. He has had a good 20-25+ world champions - Many southpaws and many who have beaten southpaw opposition to become world champion. He competed amateur and was head coach of the Cuban national team.

This is not a trainer problem. Joyce is what he is!
He lead face first and fought in the same manner under Abel Sanchez among others

I am sure his preparation was as good as can be its not like you can just find 6'6, 270lb southpaws that are two-handed fighters for sparring.

I was on a nice run of picking fights correctly. Thank goodness THAT is over.

This may be more of a fighter believing his press clippings than anything else. He seemed completely surprised that his opponent came to fight. Zhang landed five punches in a row in the second minute of round one, and Joyce seemed taken back buy the offensive display. Zhang never looked back. I do think Zhang slowed down considerably by round 5, so it is not like Joyce could not have won this. But the damage had been done. Unlike most, i will not pile on. I think this is a loss and Joyce can come back from it. He needs to heal and get back in the ring before years end, but I truly think this was just a bad fight from him. He has always been limited, but what he does well translates really effectively to the ring at HW. I still say he has 2 years of significant fights if he is hungry.

Great win for Zhang. He earned it.

Yep. He says he couldn't get away from it. It didn't look he was trying to. Standing square in front of Zhang was an invitation over and over.

Joyce gets hit a lot in all his fights but he’s never fought a puncher, not that I predicted this loss but if he fought someone like Wilder, I could see him losing.

blocking punches with your face is not a great idea long term and will only take you so far!
