    This sport is DEAD

    Where are the fights?

All I see is a bunch of part time fighters fighting every 1.5 years vs tomato cans for paychecks and robbing fans of their money.

This sport is on the verge of death until all these promotional companies cease to exist and the PPV model re-worked.

The only spark of interest the sport has is a potential Benevidez vs Canelo fight, and some of the 135-140lb potential fights, and they are in no rush to fight.

Basically just taking easy fights for $ until a cash grab and a retirement plan.

Everytime I see a potential fight it's always "we'll fight in 2024, well fight in two years". It's disgraceful.

I've been watching boxing for damn near 25 years and a hardcore fan. Spent more money on tickets than you can imagine but it's at its lowest point right now. Something needs to change - and fast!

Do you think it will get better this year 2023?

It's definitely been getting worse. All of the fighters are now fighting once a year. Yeah, all of them, except the face of boxing Mexican superstar Saul Alvarez. Fox is not renewing their deal with PBC, Showtime is absorbed by Paramount, definitely not something the boxing department welcomes.

More "injuries", cancellations, tune-ups, promoter corruption, delays, peds, etc.

WBC fixes all this by introducing transgender boxing (YAY!)

Logan Paul is carrying the entire dying sport

No, it's just what they call "evolution".

Once you had to read a book - provided that you could read - to learn something, now everybody's brain is completely taken by a fùcking smartphone. But people are still around talking bullshìt, now like then.

I’ll speak for myself. My interest in the sport has definitely declined the past few years. If it wasn’t for this site, I’d be almost completely lost. I’ve been a boxing fan longer than most people here have been alive. Is my interest level any indication of the state of the sport? It’s pretty sad.

Back in 99-00 the HBO boxing budget was $100 million and SHO had a budget of about $20 million. That was all for the regular broadcasts(Not PPV), that's the reason they could afford to have DLH,Trinidad,Lennox Lewis,Roy Jones all on regular HBO.

Currently I doubt that all the boxing networks are even putting in $50 million yearly into all of boxing, the Canelo fights on Dazn are now PPV. Any fighter in boxing with any type of fanbase is on PPV. There aren't very many stars, all the other fighters are waiting around for a big payday, pricing themselves out of any type of good fight. It really has been a ****ty few years for the sport.

Everyone is to blame here, the managers/promoters/fighters. The sport will only keep shrinking if we don't get any type of meaningful fights.

The sports ratings are in massive decline. I am also a hardcore fan who has lost alot of interest in the years. You guys dont know how much of sissies these fighters are. Guys like Beterbiev, GGG, Jalolov, when coming up cant get anyone to even fight them because these guys want crazy pay days to fight them they dont deserve. Im happy at the thought of these diva punk fighters getting a cut in pay as no tv networks cover them and people stop buying thier PPVs

Many of these dormant fighters probably want to come back ASAP, but the money is not available for them all. And they want to get paid big to compensate for their loss of income during their absence, plus they knew they'll have to wait for another year or more for their subsequent fights if ever. Of course, not all of them have the same case. Some have money in the bank, but even then shaking off the rustiness makes them eager to come back. Overall, I don't see things getting better this year or the next. Fans just have to savor whatever is presented and available.

Yes it’s in dire straights atm. Worst I’ve seen it since following the sport since late 2000s.

where are the stars? there are none tbh. In UK (and in a lot of other poaces outside of USA) AJ and Fury were legit stars for a while but both coming to the end of their careers now.

American stars? Literally zero. Spence, Crawford and whoever the **** else could walk down any street in the USA and very few people would ask for pics or anything. The sports has lost the imagination of the public let’s be honest.

Floyd’s antics killed it. New top boxers just duck and dive, never take risk it’s a joke.

500k people buying an event is considered a success.

sport will be wound up soon, same with NFL maybe
