When I created this thread everybody said Leonard was just too big for Floyd.
Mayweather vs Sugar Ray Leonard??

that doesnt make him the best. im a floyd fan but him being undefeated in my opinion doesnt make him the best fighter ever. it makes him the best in current era but not the best ever. he would have to do what ali, leonard, and robinson did and thats fight the best competition out there. until he fights and defeats some legit WW's i wont consider him as an ATGComment

As already stated though, it's not like Hearns was completely dominating Leonard, and Hearns was a monster at welterweight. Hearns was a really good boxer, far from a horrible one, that's why his monster right was so effective he could set it up with is boxing skills. Mayweather has none of the advantages Hearns did that allowed him to box Leonard.
1. Conditioning - Floyd is and always in tremendous shape
2. Defense - Its not even close. Hearns didnt even learn the basics such as holding when he got stunned. He looked like a amateur
3. Legs - Floyd's not going to be stumbling around the ring all off balance. Even though Tommy was boxing Ray his legs looked like they were ready to go at a any moment.
4 Inside Fighting - This is where Ray in both fights had success against Tom my. This is where Floyd is better because he is able to fight close range, yet still make you miss and counter off of that. Floyd can fight Ray middle of the ring and stay close and still make Ray miss and counter.
Ray even in the Terry Norris fight was outboxed and it looked just like the Hearns fight. I know some will say he was much older but when he faces a boxer with speed he falls way behind on points and has to be the aggressor.Last edited by RayLeonard82; 09-28-2009, 04:42 PM.Comment

Just laughable to be bringing up the Terry Norris fight. Leonard was forced to be the aggressor against Hearns because he was facing disadvantages in height and reach.
Last time I checked Floyd Mayweather wasn't 6'1 with a 78 inch reach, he's 5'8 with a 72 inch reach.
Leonard didn't exactly need to run face first into Benitez's punches:

Wow are you serious? Who would win between Leonard and jokeweather... Is this a joke? If history has any indictaion of what would happen... Look no farther then what SRL did to his dad... SRL would do the same thing he did to his dad back in the day ... beat that ass!Comment

Every argument you've presented has been absurd, and simply shows your lack of experience and knowledge of the sport, and your complete bias towards FMJ.Comment

Ray would be a very tough for Floyd to beat, however it is not impossible for Floyd to win. Leonard would have to be a nice favorite though, it would be an interesting fight a nice contrast of styles.Comment
