Comments Thread For: Canelo: I Really Wanted Bivol Rematch, But Hearn Said We Had Contract To Fight Golovkin

I picked Bivol, and still feel Canelo deserves tons of credit for rumbling with one of the 2 top LHW in the world. In spite of his win over Kovalev a few years ago, I saw this as a HUGE gamble and a man challenging himself. I still have more respect for him unifying at 168 and stepping up to Bivol than I do most of the fighters sitting around protecting their "0" or fighting trash opponents to keep a worthless strap around their belly. I do not care if he does not rematch Bivol. I am fine with a third cash-cow fight with a 4 decade old Golovkin. I think he has earned some latitude. I also think he has a chance to lose to Golovkin so it is not a gimme fight with zero stakes to it.
However, the point about 7 others before me brought out about how he brags on making his own decisions, until it is time to defend not rematching Bivol when he was "forced" into this fight instead when he really, really, really would rather fight Bivol again is kind of hilarious.Comment

You may have misunderstood me as I was not referring to the rematch, but the first fight. I believe he underestimated Bivol in the first fight, but This time around Canelo knows exactly what he is facing and I'm sure if they fight he will prepare accordingly. I also believe he will lose again.Last edited by OldTerry; 09-16-2022, 08:39 PM.Comment

I think you are overestimating Canelo. How can Bivol be a cherry pick if he was won 268 amateur fights, was twice world champion, is now undefeated as a light heavyweight champion, is much bigger than Canelo, and fights at a heavier weight class? I understand your dislike for Canelo, but Bivol is not a cherry pick. By definition, a cherry-pick is someone who is clearly inferior to his opponent. So heap scorn on Canelo for some other reason but don't demean yourself by publically blathering nonsense.
Or otherwise Eddie Hearn and Canelo wouldn't have never agreed to fight him if there was so much as a remote smidgeon of hope of Canelo losing to him and y'all Canelo fanboys know that I am right.
Just be honest and tell the truth for at least once in your lives. Had Eddie Hearn known what he knows now about Bivol he would have never set Canelo up to fail by fighting him and you know I'm telling the truth.
His job as a promoter is to help keep Alvarez winning. So why would he put Canelo in with a dangerous opponent like Bivol if he knew that he would lose to him? So please use your common sense.

Not according to Hearn. Hearn literally told Bivol he wouldn't have gotten the fight if he hadn't looked bad in his last 2.
