Yes agreed. The ref seemed to be on Caterall’s case about the holding and clinching much more than Taylor and I wonder if it impacted how the judges scored the rounds as it relates to ring generalship and defense. They may have thought Jack needed to hold. I do think Catterall landed more clean punches in the first 8 rounds and was out boxing and out fighting Josh but the clinching and holding really tapered the action. This is the dullest fight I’ve seen Taylor in and it was my first time seeing Catterall. I don’t agree with Carl Froch’s assertion that Caterall threw away the fight in the final rounds as while I believe Taylor came on, Caterall continued to have his moments and wasn’t giving away rounds. I really feel for Jack as he looked the be the deserved winner and this decision has huge economic consequences immediately and sets his career back.
This will adversely affect Jack's finances going forward which is a shame. I'd be all for a rematch ..... but >>>> being an optimist >>>> I look forward to seeingTaylor challenge himself at 147 and I look forward to Caterall in big fights against Tank, Haney, Lopez, Prograis, Ramirez - if he gets even 2 of those fights he'll do fine moneywise.

I saw highlights of Caterall's previous fight and he fought cleanly but based on this evidence I've got zero interest in watching him going forwards. This was potentially a similar upset to that of Kombosos but at least that fight wasn't a clinch fest and I'm happy to watch George going forward.
and by taking his foot off the gas during rounds 9
to 11. He deserves to have some time for self-pity, but eventually he’ll have to look in the mirror and be honest with himself about how he let the title slip through his fingers.Last edited by Roj; 02-27-2022, 03:36 PM.

What COULD have happened also is that Taylor didn't get a point deducted for tapping Jack after the bell - he should have gotten a finger-wagging for that. He shouldn't have done that but it had zero influence on how the fight played out WHEREAS all the clinching did affect how the fight played out. (excuse the CAPS - not shouting, just trying to get points across).

This fight will follow Josh Taylor throughout his career.
Not really. I hasten to add that I'm not convinced Josh will be an ATG, we'll have to see how he performs at 147 BUT:
Mayweather v Castillo 1
Ali v Norton 3 or Jimmy Young
Lewis v Mercer
Azumah Nelson v Fenech 1
Carl Froch v Andre Dirrell
Andre Ward v Kovalev 1
Did not, in any way, define any of their careers. It is the nature of boxing that sometimes you'll be the beneficiary of a lousy decision. The best fighters learn from their good fortune & kick on.
