Comments Thread For: Gary Russell: I Gave Magsayo a Boxing Lesson, I Felt Like I Won The Fight

In 6 years, Gary had 5 successful defenses.
If he had 15 defenses in 5 years like Prince Naz, people would be willing to die for him and back him in close decision loss like what happened yesterday.
Instead, he created more enemies than allies through his inactivity, fighting only mandatories, keeping belt hostage, etc.
.
His reign was so pathetic, nobody cared when he lost.

It seems jr has always been arrogant, with a lame work ethic. And here he vehemently repeats himself over and over
with an attitude like how dare anyone take my title. Yes, the injury probably cost him the fight, but I've seen his fights where
he was inactive while fully healthy. Once a year (if that) isn't the boxing career of a champion. It's what a part-timer in the sport does.Comment

No! Only if Team Mark Magsayo would have agreed to it because Team Mark Magsayo didn't owe Gary Russell, Jr a rematch clause unless it was ordered by the sanctioning body. He was not some voluntary challenger or an optional defense.
Once again he was the mandatory challenger. Therefore, Russell had to fight him or else he would have been stripped and had to forfeit his title belt. Therefore, it wasn't Team Russell's right to give Mark a rematch clause unless he agreed to accept one.
However, Mark's team exercised their right to not to accept one at that particular time. Loma vs Lopez was different because it was a voluntary unification bout In which case both parties had the right to exercise a rematch clause if they wanted to.
They didn't have to fight one another if they didn't want to. So a rematch clause was very feasible in that situation. If Gary Russell truly feels that he is entitled to a rematch then let him petition the WBC for one. They are the only ones who could grant him one at this time.

Then why wasn't Russell ripping off those typical high precision and accurate combination punches he normally throw in the first three rounds of their fight before his shoulder injury in the fourth round? I'll tell you why it's because the man has gotten old overnight. Besides, he said it was an old injury he sustained more than several years ago prior to that fight anyhow. He blamed his poor conditioning and stamina on his two year inactivity from the ring. It had really aged him.Last edited by champion4ever; 01-24-2022, 09:31 AM.Comment
