Yeah if it's just a tear you can fight in 2-3 months..
But if I was Spence. I won't sacrifice my eye sight for a boxing match. I'll make sure it's properly healed. I'll wait for a year, and bounce back.. that is if it's a tear, but this article is saying it's detached.. That's even worse..2-3 yrs minimum.
I even think it's because of him abruptly going back in the fray too early fighting a heavy handed DSG that I now think, caused his eye issue to aggravate.. If he didn't comeback too early he might not have this problem now.
Bottom-line, this is caused by the car accident.. and has spiraled downhill for him.Comment

No offense, until an ophthalmologist who happens to be an NSB poster gives some insight, not going to take much of the armchair diagnoses on the threads very seriously.
Even then, our hypothetical resident NSB ophthalmologist can't be taken too seriously unless he examines the records and eyeball himself.
While I wait for this "expert" to chime in, I will say a prayer and hope for a speedy recovery for Mr. Spence.Comment

Isn’t this even worse than first reported? A detachment is no joke, Ray Leonard would know a thing or two about this. I was hoping it was a torn retina as reported at first, but if it’s detachment then he should consider retirement. This is why you take the most money available fight when you are a boxer, not try play politics with the “Other side of the streets” BS.Comment

What type of retinal detachment or "break" did he have? Was it partial or full detachment? Macula on or off detachment?.....depending on what type of detachment (and post op recovery) will determine if his career will continue or not. I don't think any responsible ophthalmologist will clear him to ever fight again because Spence will be "at risk" of having another RD (retinal detachments) with his type of occupation.
