mma fighters dont go 'deep' in any skill set they use.

the best mma wrestlers would get beaten by the best Olympic Wrestlers, the best mma boxers would get creamed by the best pro boxers, etc...

they will go 'waist high' in a variety of styles, but they never go far in one particular style. and thats what 'deepness' is.

There was a time when it was all ground, when the gracie's caught everyone off gaurd and introduced it to everyone. The sport has evolved since then and everyone is experienced on the ground, at least to escape and hold their own. Big reason why Gracie's arent as dominant as they once were, everyone adapted to them.

I dont see how evolving hurts them, whereas you say, "boxing With boxing, you know what you have and it's still on top". Im not sure that statement supports MMA. One sport is evolving and getting bigger, and the other staying stagnant.

Boxing fans are getting insecure about MMA, and Im a boxing fan who doesnt feel that way. I dont see any reason to down MMA.
Never said boxer vs an MMA'er. I said as the sport evolves. At first it was a crap shoot, it evolved into BJJ dominating, then wrestlers dominating. Now it's turning into a stand up game. More and more MMA'er are trying to learn boxing. Far more then a few years ago. They are looking for an advantage over the next guy and soon, they will all be comparable with each other at boxing. The next step will be to take the boxer down back to the ground and things will have become full circle.

MMA is evolving into different aspects, but that doesn't mean it's becoming a better product. The fighters are getting better, but as usually goes, styles make fights and when you have two similarly talented fighters who fight with the same similar style, you get boring fights.

MMA has peaked. It will never get more exciting then it is now. The fans can care less that Silva knocking out Forest was anything less then technical bliss. All they care about is that dude got stretched flat and ran out the ring like a wuss. MMA fans in general, applaud mediocrity when it comes to boxing, boxing fans do not.

I am an MMA fan. I love the fact that there is something else to watch when there isn't any good boxing on or football isn't in season. Still, nothing comes close to the anticipation of a good boxing match.

I respect MMA fighters and their abilities, but the product as a whole is more hype then anything else. Exciting MMA fights are too far and in between. Definitely not enough of them to kill boxing.

MMA Evolution = Jacks of all trades, Masters of none.

Now wrestling with BJJ skills isn't enough. Everyone wants to stand and fight. Nobody wants to go to the ground and when they do, fights rarely end in any BJJ move other then a guillotine or rear naked choke. BJJ is a very deep sport itself, but not one that most people want to watch.

People want to see knockouts and they can care less if there is a technique behind it. MMA fighters rarely fight in "space" so most boxing principles are useless. The only thing making MMA even comparable to boxing at this point is about 6 oz of padding.

Let a boxing match between two superstars happen with 4 oz gloves and you'll see sheer and utter brutality.
          Two words.

          Verrisimo/Hughes.

For people who don't follow. Renato Verrisimo fought Matt Hughes in a 3 rounder. While Hughes was taking down Renato, a BJJ expert, Renato was totally schooling him on the ground. Submission attempt after submission attempt after submission attempt. The fight is over, guess who wins.

          Hughes.

According to the boxing judges, Hughes was on top of Renato all the time, so he wins.

Fighters aren't keeping the fight standing because people like KOs. They're keeping it standing because the numbnut judges don't want to get or understand ground technique. So ground based fighters have to secure fights by striking so in hapchance it does go to the ground, they at least have some insurance. No matter how bad their striking is.

More modern MMA and the general crop are garbage skilled, however, you cannot claim that some of the masters of MMA (Sakuraba, Gracies, Shamrocks, etc) are any less skilled than the best boxers.

MMA looks alot more sloppy because its in the early(relative to boxing) stages and every single garbage fighter is put on stage and tv, unlike boxing which usually you have to dig to find any footage of the first 20 or so fights of any pro's career.
