There would be massive pressure on all of the other top Welters, from HBO and from the boxing public, to fight him, if he beat the #3 Welterweight decisively - which is something that no other fighter has ever been able to do. It's by far Williams best chance of getting a fight against one of them. At the moment they have no reason to fight him, because they can say he's not a Welterweight, and worse still, that when he was offered a fight against a top Welterweight, he turned it down. The fact is, if he doesn't want to fight Clottey, that will prove beyond any doubt, in most people's minds, whether you like it or not, that he's really not serious about fighting at Welterweight again.
Enough of the sheep talk.."floyd stan"..stick to bxong talk enough with that bull****...LIKE I SAID BEATING CLOTTEY MEANS ****...HES BRING NOTHING TO THE TABLE..LEGACY...MONEY..NOTHING..HBO ALREADY TURNED DOWN THE FIGHT IN THE PAST..LMFAO...WHAT MASKES YOU THINK THEY WANT IT NOW AFTER HE JUST LOST..LOL.

He also beat the **** out of Winky easily..like no one has ever done....

How many 160 pounders wanted a piece....

    ZERO.

Im sure if Cotto or Mosley manned up and fought Paul..I mean hes been calling out those two for years.

Fine **** WW..ONLY one WW wants the fight...and he so happens to be the one that matters the LEAST.

Time to move on..154 it is..go up there and whoop ass.

Thn HBO turned down a Williams vs. Clottey fight.

So what the hell is that Dave guy talking about?

Williams will win every round vs. Clottey its a joke matchup.

A guy who BARELY throws punches vs. The guy who NEVER stops throwing punches are you kidding me?.....LMAO....Paul destroys Clottey
After watching Clottey/Cotto I would have to say the same thing.
Clottey was getting it on against Cotto but if he couldn't take out
Cotto (Who was a wounded duck) with a major cut that distracted
Cotto, how can he beat a man that fought with a bad cut like he
never had one? I think Williams would be the first one to knock
      Clottey out.

Paul would probaly force the hand of Clotteys corner..I mean Paul will throw throw and throw some more...Clottey will fold man.

Thats the EASIEST matchup for Paul right now...it would make Paul look like a GOD...the way hell easily beat the hell out of Joshua...if it happens fine..ALL POINTS ON PAUL.

I never f#cking said that man. You keep putting words into my mouth. I wouldn't be mad at Joe if he didn't fight Paul Williams. But I don't know why you think there's something wrong with being curious about the match up. Williams might be able to beat Calzaghe at his own game. It sure would be interesting to me to find out. And how would the fight be short of anything but exciting? Two monster volume punchers going at it. Clottey has a low work rate and we saw what happened the last time he fought someone with a high one. He had success early in the fight, but he lost to Margarito more convincingly than what he did to Cotto. And obviously Williams is better than Margarito.

I like Clottey and think he is a good fighter but he lost to two slower
fighters than Paul. Williams work rate would over whelm Clottey.
The way Clottey shells up and wait for opportunities to counter I
don't even see him being able to get anything significant off to stop
or hurt Paul. I think it is an easy win for Paul too.

Because HBO said so. Didn't you bother to read the article? The reason HBO wants Williams to fight Clottey now is that he was very impressive against Cotto, and many boxing experts thought he should have got the decision; and his status was increased, not decreased, as a result of that fight - just as JMM's status was increased, not decreased, after the Pac fights. And the reason HBO weren't interested in the fight last year was that neither fighter had nearly as much marque value last year as they have now. And the reason that HBO doesn't give a **** about him fighting Dzinziruk is that most people have never heard of Dzinziruk, whereas after the Cotto fight, everyone has heard of Clottey.

If he wants to be taken seriously as a Welterweight contender he has to be willing to fight the #3 Welterweight. For him to say he's only willing to fight the top 2 and no one below that is ridiculous. The top 2 have absolutely no reason to fight him until he proves he can still cut it at Welterweight, by beating a top Welterweight. If he doesn't want to fight at Welterweight, he should stop pretending he does.

He lost to a Hall of Fame fighter who happens to be the best split decision victory on your hero's resume. The point is is that if Williams fought Clottey that would be the second fighter in a row that he's fought coming off a loss. I guess being a UK Calzaghe fan that kind of mentality is okay with you. And the reason why Paul fought Winky is because nobody else would step up to the plate. Now I will admit that James Kirkland expressed intersest in fighting Paul and the challenge got brushed off like the one with Clottey is, and that lost some points in my book. But the difference is, Kirkland was coming off an impressive stoppage victory over a decent prospect on HBO while Clottey lost a competitive decision against a guy who is a good fighter, but possibly damaged because of all the punishment he has taken in Cotto.

Williams shouldn't have to go through the trouble of draining weight to fight a guy who does so little for clout. And I don't know why you keep accusing Williams of ducking this guy when his next fight isn't even finalized yet. He'll probably fight Clottey if this fight with Sergei D. doesn't work out.

I think Goosen is feeling like, if it is not Mosley or Cotto at 147
then whatever. Clottey would be a good win but not in the cards
or the direction Williams is heading in. With that said, the fight
could happen depending on how bad HBO wants it and how much
their willing to pay and promote it.

I don't understand why all of a sudden HBO is willing to pay for it when their boxing budget was almost as spent last year as it is this year. And they weren't willing to pay for it when it was proposed in November of last year. I am not optimistic about the competitive prospects of this fight at all. I see a dominating victory for Williams in this fight due to styles. There are tougher fighters at 154 that Paul Williams could fight.
