If oscar was a ligit 147 pounder at the time, the fight would have been at 144 or something. Again, the entire purpose of a catchweight is when two fighters in different weight classes want to fight eachother. It's meant to be fair.
Because your argument has no validity.

He chased the money, even when he had to go up another weightclass or two.

He beat a jr.middle at welter, but he can't beat a welter at welter?

I'm a fan of Pac, but this schit just rubs me the wrong way. I understand fighters want to have as many advantages as possible, but at what point are the fights not even fair anymore?

Might as well have the fight at 147 with Miguel wearing a patch over his left eye and one hand tied to his shoe.

and why the **** welters are picking on lightweights & junior welters lately?

they should be fighting each other in the first place...
If the fight is for the Welterweight title then Cotto should be able to come in at any goddam muther***n weight he wants providing he is within the Welterweight limit, which is 147 - not 144, or 145, or even 146, but 147.

That is the end of the ***n debate right there. You wanna have some micky mouse fight at a garbage catch weight? Fine. Just don't go round calling it a fight for the Welterweight championship of the world.

Yeah, he'll deserve alot of credit if he beats Cotto. 143 was asking to much of Cotto to shed those extra pounds but 145 is fair.

I will definitely give Manny the full credit if he beats Cotto as I expect Cotto to win.

I'll give Manny full credit. If Cotto can get himself to 146 without much fuss, I don't see how 145 will make much difference if any. At the end of the day Manny has only had 3 fights above 130 pounds and here he is fighting a top welterweight at 145 pounds.

Tale of the tape on fight night:

Weigh in: Pacquaio 143 lbs, Cotto 145 lbs

Fight night: Pacquaio 148 lbs, Cotto 156 lbs.

Any problem Cotto may have in making 145 is cancelled out by him outweighing Manny on fight night. May the best man win.

Apparently people around here think that once Cotto makes 146lbs... he just STAYS that weight until his next fight... where NOW he just has to lose ONE pound.

Doesnt make any sense to me.

For a man who gains 13lbs in 24 hours... Cotto DEFINITELY dehydrates down to 147 a significant amount... when you are already dehydrating 13lbs of water... TWO MORE pounds.... IS... a big deal.

However, being that he is facing Manny, who only fought at 130 last year... I would give Manny credit for the win.

Howver I still feel, that if you wanna be the welterweight champion... by beating the welterweight champion... you should do it at welterweight... or wait until you can.
manny actually fought at 135 last june and then at 147 6 months later, manny should get credit if he beats miguel but i don't think it should be for cotto's tittle unless the fight is at 147
