Will you give Manny full credit if he beats Cotto @ 145 for the ww belt?

if the one pound doesn't make a difference, then why insist on it? why not go with the officially recognized WW limit? if it turns out that the one pound actually really doesn't make a difference (but who will be able to determine that for sure with 100% certainty anyway?), the fact remains that roach wanted the 1 lb (or 2 lbs or whatever) to make a difference, otherwise he wouldn't insist on it.Because he has no right to. There is no limit on the heavyweight division, which to me was always ****** and why we have people like Valuev winning fights basically because they are gigantic compared to almost everyone else.
And you'd give Pacquiao MORE than full credit if he beat Cotto at 147, yet you won't give him full credit for beating him at one pound below what he last came in at? What about when Miguel outweighs Manny by 10 pounds when they enter the ring?
He will be no different to what he usually is. On the other hand, Cotto doesn't like unofficial weigh-ins, so we may never find out how much he outweighs Pacquiao by.
for example, if you take swing at my grandma and miss, even though she didn't get hit, fact remains ur still a ***** for takin a swing at a little ol lady. (not callin you a *****, just using an example
)

He's never weighed in close to 147. As mentioned a dozen times in this thread he weighed in at 142 pounds.
It was a huge gamble for him to do that against a 154 pound fighter, but for $10+ million dollars people do crazy things.Comment

Actually Roach wanted 4 pounds but Cotto and his people said 144 or 145 is fine. So 145 it is.if the one pound doesn't make a difference, then why insist on it? why not go with the officially recognized WW limit? if it turns out that the one pound actually really doesn't make a difference (but who will be able to determine that for sure with 100% certainty anyway?), the fact remains that roach wanted the 1 lb (or 2 lbs or whatever) to make a difference, otherwise he wouldn't insist on it.
for example, if you take swing at my grandma and miss, even though she didn't get hit, fact remains ur still a ***** for takin a swing at a lttle ol lady.
If Cotto and his people believed this one pound was going to risk his health or if they believed he wouldn't be 100%, I don't think they'd take the fight. Cotto knows his body, he knows what he's comfortable with. If he says he can make 144 pounds, 145 shouldn't be an issue.Comment

It doesn't matter what he weighed though,
the fact remains,
he fought at the welterweight limit of 147 against another opponent.
That is where the problems begin. Had he not ever taken that fight, there probably wouldn't be as much flak.
Thats what happens when you chase money, you have to be able to take the money along with the criticism.
In this case, its warranted.Comment

his is really so funny. Any other fighter, and it would be the OTHER way around. People would say the smaller guy is at a huge disadvantage. But for some crazy reason it's the bigger guy, and it's one pound.
Hopkins was perfectly fine at 175 pounds. He was comfortable there and yet he fought at 170 pounds. No problem. He's willing to go down even further to 168 pounds against Carl Froch. No one will complain, least of all hopkins, and he'll be the favorite to win.
You can say well hopkins was a middleweight for most of his career. Yes, and cotto was at 140.
There are a number of other examples too besides hopkins.
Point being, I find it comical that the guy who was at 130 pounds just over a year ago is getting bashed on because he's fighting one of, if not the best 147 pounder in the sport, all this over a single pound.Comment

there's no limit on the heavyweight division, but chagaev could have insisted on an unofficial limit.
there's no 145 limit in the welterweight division either.Comment

I really don't understand why this is hard to understand. Pac fought at 135. Oscar at 154. 147 pounds was the "meet me in the middle" agreement, it had little to do with the actual number or weight class. It doesn't matter what he weighed though,
the fact remains,
he fought at the welterweight limit of 147 against another opponent.
That is where the problems begin. Had he not ever taken that fight, there probably wouldn't be as much flak.

If oscar was a ligit 147 pounder at the time, the fight would have been at 144 or something. Again, the entire purpose of a catchweight is when two fighters in different weight classes want to fight eachother. It's meant to be fair.Comment

I'd give pacman full credit for beating cotto if he beats him at any weight (catch or otherwise) but i i wouldnt give him credit at a lower weight or catchweight for beating cotto and claiming it to be a WW win.
147 is welter...not 145, 144, 143.
Those are CATCHWEIGHTS.
Thus i voted no in the poll...you cant say he deserves a WW title for winning it at a weight below the 147...its just not fair...thats like saying hopkins should be the middleweight champ because he beat pavlik (who is the middleweight champ) when the fight took place at a weight other than middleweight's weight limit.
i still give hopkins all the credit in the world for going out there and doing the virtual unthinkable against the prime middleweight champion but i cant say he IS the middleweight champion when he didnt get down to that weight class.
no difference here for pacman...im sure it would be a great win (if he does win against cotto) and i'd acknowledge that and give him full credit but i CANT say he's the legit WW champ...not unless he goes to 147 to get it.Comment

nah. pac officially weighed 142 lbs against dlh.It doesn't matter what he weighed though,
the fact remains,
he fought at the welterweight limit of 147 against another opponent.

pac isn't a true WW so if he beats cotto at 145 lbs he should get creditComment
