In all honesty, Manny Pacquiao is the face of boxing.

then why does he tell potential opponents to get better PPV numbers?

        Damn, you are Mexican...right? Seriously.

I just answered your question in full detail. With examples.

Let me give you an example that you would understand:

You are selling oranges by the freeway. You want to expand to other intersections. Do you get a partner who can chip in on a bushel of oranges...or do you get a partner that you have to carry? To lend the money to, and then have to shaare the proceeds?

Floyd (or any other commercially viable boxer) doesn't NEED another "A". But it is SMART to get one. At this level, guys only fight 2x/3x per year. Max. So you want to MAXIMIZE every opportunity.

Notice who Oscar fought: Mayorga. Vargas. Not the guys who were necessarily the best competition at that point (Winky & Forrest). But guys who generated interest and promoted the fight effectively.

The reason he (or anyone else) would seek a fighter with a fanbase is obvious: because the purse is shared.

For example, Tony Margarito wanted a fight with mayweather, but TM had just fought ******* Gomez at the Aladdin in a half-empty room. That PPV sold 30K. Yes. Thirty thousand.

Soooo, what is in it for Floyd? Or anyone else? He would essentially be sharing his own income with another fighter for no reason. Just like it benefits you if your wife has a good job. She brings something to the table.

Example: After Zab lost to Baldomir, they reduced his purse from three mil down to one mil. His commercial appeal was reduced.

Another example (because you seem Mexican): If i go and "offer" Oscar Delahoya a fifteen million dollar payday to fight me, what is in it for him? Goldie can make $15 mil fighting ANYONE. He would quickly recognize that I'm just trying to pencil myself in for a payday, while bringing no incrementality.

It's the same as any company that seeks to launch a brand extension. The first analysis is focused around incrementality.

          Got that?

PBF is thinking only of money and main stream media entertainment. He is not thinking about his legacy. PBF is a big enough NAME now. PBF doesn't need another "A" fighter to sell, his name alone is like OSCAR, but he needs "better opponents" to become a greater boxer, a legendary boxer, an ATG. PBF has not reached that level due to his lack of challenges in his last 7 fights, except for the Judah fight.

If you want me to say it I'll say it. Pacquiao has a better resume than Mayweather...but that can change if Floyd beats Marquez and Cotto/Pac...

I'll give it to Pacquiao rite now. He beat a hall of famer in his prime(Barrera). And Morales is disputable...Floyd can't say that

In tennis, and boxing, there are no teams in the battlefield. It's just you and your opponent, period. So when it comes to recognize the best athletes in each sport, different standards must be taken. For example, in baseball, you can basicly make it to the Hall of Fame in pure stats. But it's not the same to talk about Babe Ruth, Aaron, Nolan Ryan, Roberto Clemente... than to to talk about McGuire, Bonds, Clemmens. One thing is the steroids, but another thing also has to do with your personality, time spent with the same team, at the same town and your relationship with the community. People make "legends" out of the athletes, not the other way around.

But ALL TIME BEST athletes play for glory, a major purpose. Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Ali, Pele, Maradona, Duran, Babe Ruth, Brett Favre, Dan Marino, Barry Sanders, McEnroe, Naratilova, Trevino, Chi Chi Rodriguez, etc... These were great athletes who became legends cause people loved them. (plus stats and accomplishments.)

Nowadays in boxing, fans keep discussing their favotrite boxers and post a lot of stats, accomplishments, and lineal championships. Which is great and obviously adds to the reputation of the fighter. Still, boxing is personal, one-on-one. Just like it takes two teams to make a GREAT Unforgettable SuperBowl, or a Soccer World Cups Finals... In boxing you need two fighters in a MEGA CLASSIC FIGHT.

In boxing is not only your record, your belts, the number of divisions you fought at, lineal champion status... but WHO YOU FOUGHT and WHO YOU DEFEATED. People take for granted numbers without looking deeper in names and match-ups. In boxing to become a legend, you need to be involved in legendary fights. You must had had defeated the best available opponents in each of the weight classes you dominated. It's "ok" to be brought up carefully in your early career, but when the time comes to become a class A fighter, and you must fight the best available opponent. How many times are we going to complaint about the lack of Hagler's, Hearn's, Leonard's, Tyson's, JCC's, Lewis's, Ali's, TiTo's... as long as fighters only think about money, we are not getting legendary fights, and much less a legendary boxer.

Then again, we got a Kobe Bryant, a Dereck Jeter, a Rafael Nadal, a Tiger Woods, a David Beckham, a Roger Federer, a Michael Phelps, and in boxing a Manny Pacquiao. These athletes are bound to be legends, but Manny is going to be the one with the most historical impact. He got everything to be name ONE of the GREATEST. PacMan got stats, achievements, classic matchups, names in "their prime", lineal championships, a huge fan base, love and dedication for the sport, a big family, socially and politically active, and humble enough to be always smiling no matter what.

So no matter who fights Manny Pacquiao next, the main story in boxing will be Pacquiao from now on...

OK. Someone I can reason with.

                      Yes. i agree.

The problem is that guys here get so caught up in their hatred of Floyd, that they become like emotional bitches. They criticize every aspect of who he is and what he does. That is what women do. We are men. We are expected to think more analytically.

Floy'd level of opposition has been mad iffy. But his commercial appeal has been top-flight. Don't confuse the two. Different arguments.

Just because that girl is a ***** and has a terrible personality doesn't mean that she isn't fine as hell.
