Dawson needs to make another statement with this fight. He already showed in the last one how good he is, now he needs to be even better this time around.
And give it up to him for calling out Hopkins. That's why it is my belief that Dawson will be P4P #1 someday.Comment

One of the ******est things I heard. So because Dawson landed more punches, that's more impressive than Hopkins who was 40 years old, coming up from 160 and beating Tarver when he WAS the man at LHW and coming off of wins over Glen Johnson and Roy Jones?
Again, Dawson fought Tarver over 2 years later. AFTER he was already dethroned by hopkins and no longer considered the best at LHW.

There is plenty of guys out there he can fight to clean up the division. Diancanu for one)
I had the first fight a draw after the last time I watched it, but had Glen winning it when I saw it live and Chad by 1 on my first review. If Glen comes out a little quicker, he could win it, instead of taking 5 rounds to get in his groove. Besides, it was a great fight to watch and if its so easy for Chad to win the rematch, he should take it cuz fight fans want to see it.Comment

You could also make a case for Dawson fighting a more active Tarver and in shape. Tarver had to lose all of those pounds from the rocky movie to get back down to 175 in order to fight Hopkins and mentally he could have been somewhere else. Not to make excuses, just something to consider.
That being said I think Dawson is the toughest matchup for Hopkins from 168-200. It also, as Hopkins has said, does the least for him to your average sports fan. Dawson needs to breakout into the mainstream big time, maybe KO Tarver. Even still not sure Hops is willing to risk a 6th loss to fight a guy who's young, not on the p4p list, and has only been a Showtime fighter.
Now let us remember, nobody thinks any less of Foreman for not rematching Schulz or losing his belt for not fighting Tony Tucker. That isn't talked about, just his ability to claim a title at his age. Hopkins is a man who left his peek a good 7 years ago.Last edited by Spiegelo; 04-21-2009, 11:40 AM.Comment

Ehhh people give in to Tarver's excuse a little too much. I thought that played a part when I was at the fight in AC, but after rewatching it (several times) Tarver is no slower, less active, or less accurate than he is in his awful fights after Hopkins. He's really no different than he was in his 3rd fight with Roy. Face it, Tarver lost the motivation to train hard after he fought Roy the first time, he never again came back with that kinda speed.

I'm in two minds wither Dawson is ready for a fight with Hopkins? He shouldn't be overlooking Tarver though, but Dawson beat Tarver better then Hopkins did IMO. I reckon Dawson is probably the only fighter left out there who could beat Hopkins?
I like Dawson, his style and attitude impress me. He has a damn good resume for a guy with 27 fights. Calzaghe made it clear that he didn't want to fight him, and Hopkins has said the same. That speaks volumes IMO.
He;s doing the right things and letting people know he's there. Hopkins might have to fess up and fight him, or retire. He can't keep ignoring him like Calzaghe did.Comment

Yeahh seriously, losing 20 lbs of FAT is hardly why Tarver lost to Hops. Ricky loses the same, possibly more on his smaller frame in the same amount of time. No complaints. Don't get me wrong, every frame and every body is different, but Tarver looked the same he did against BHop as he did in his 2nd and 3rd fight against Roy. People have been learning too much about boxing from listening to commentators and boxers, not from watching actual fights..Comment
