There's a difference between Hopkins circling away from your lead hand, taking 2 steps back, lunging in with just a feint and then slipping your counter and proceeding to back away... to Jones' walking backwards and leaning on the ropes with a high gaurd. Roy was shot, he didn't have the legs, Dawson gets on his bicycle and he circles and counters, but he doesn't have the tools Hopkins has. What makes it worse is that you can't tell whether he's coming in for the clinch, the right hand, or if he's gonna feint to set something up, or just create room. You're still comparing apples and oranges, Hopkins will always make his opponent come up with excuses because they will never look the same when they face him.
Dawson Hoping Hopkins is Next After Tarver Rematch

He did let his hands go, re watch. You may be getting him missing those punches confused with him actually letting his hands go, because he definitely tried( unlike Tarver) but the problem was that he was getting countered after everything he threw. Watch those body shots that he landed in the middle rounds and how he threw punches when Hopkins would occasionally go onto the ropes, this fight is saved to my DVR. Ive had to see it over 13 times.
Hes young, he haven't even reached his peak yet.As of now? As of always & forever.

Deal, we can bet even higher if you want. Its funny because Cloud shouldn't even be the mandatory, the only fighter he beat was a faded Gonzalez who was on a losing streak and had lost to a faded Reggie Johnson in his last fight, he was brought in to make Cloud look good. When Cloud and Dawson fight, you will see the difference in size, skill level, opposition and raw talent. Adamek was miles better than Cloud and a lot bigger as well. Cloud has to jump up just to touch Dawson's face because of the height differential.Comment

Yup that's why he lost to Jermain Taylor twice, I don't know too much of the ins and outs of boxing, but I know Dawson is skilled enough to give Hopkins a beating. To say Dawson doesn't have the tools that Hopkins has is ridiculous. I would say Dawson isn't on the level of Hopkins in terms of experience and ring generalship, but he'll get there. Dawson is still improving as a fighter. There's a difference between Hopkins circling away from your lead hand, taking 2 steps back, lunging in with just a feint and then slipping your counter and proceeding to back away... to Jones' walking backwards and leaning on the ropes with a high gaurd. Dog, I'll tell you right now there is no way in hell Dawson will ever be a defensive genius like hopkins, it's just not in him. That's not a knock on him but hopkins has one of the greatest defenses of all time. It's up there with the greats.
Whenever the fight is signed I'll bet you everything you got.Deal, we can bet even higher if you want.
Let's not talk about if he should have been this or not because that's neither here nor there, the point is that he is the mandatory now and has been for a while. Its funny because Cloud shouldn't even be the mandatory
Listen, Dawson could and should win the fight against Cloud. I just want Dawson to do what's right and fight his mandatory who's been waiting for him. If Dawson takes out Cloud, he'll get major props from me. ****, I'll give him major props for just taking the fight (I for one actually like when fighters take care of their mandatories as well as clean house). I'm tired of guys going after all the big and old names, do whats right which is clean house. Dawson is young and if he stays at light heavy and cleans house like he should, the big fights will come to him. When Cloud and Dawson fight, you will see the difference in size, skill level, opposition and raw talent. That's just a ****** comment. Hopkins has never received a beating in his entire career, so what makes you think Dawson would be the one to it? Sure, say Dawson could win and that Hopkins could lose similar to how he did against Taylor or Calzaghe, but to say hopkins would receive a beating is just plain ignorant. Even at 44, hopkins is much to smart and craft to ever get beat up. He could lose on points, make it an ugly close fight, but not a beating.Comment

Why is that there wil always be other champions and mandatory named by sanctioning bodies, but when you get a chance at a big fight you have to go for it because chance won't always be there.Listen, Dawson could and should win the fight against Cloud. It's not Dawson's style to be a defensive master like Hopkins or Toney. I think Dawson has it in him to be great. Whether he becomes great or not, remains to be seen.Dog, I'll tell you right now there is no way in hell Dawson will ever be a defensive genius like hopkins, it's just not in him. As for Dawson-Cloud, Dawson said he's willing to fight him, but Cloud would probably want to fight someone else before fighting Dawson. If Cloud decides not to be busy and go for Dawson's belt, then Dawson is willing to do it. Cloud is willing to fight Dawson, but would it be wise to go straight for the championship when he hasn't fought for almost a year? He says he wants to, but I don't think he'll fight Dawson right away.Last edited by Boxingwizard; 04-21-2009, 03:52 PM.Comment
