I think you're confusing him with Joe Louis, who touted his service when asked about Ali's refusal to be inducted in "Ali/Frazier 1 : One Nation Divisible".

And Frazier only resorted to calling Ali Clay after Ali pretty much drug Joe's name and reputation through the dirt.
