Answer: nothing, both divisions where weak as fcuk.
Go ahead and post the top five at 168 for those same years. Then lets compare.

Unless of course you think guys like Virgil Hill were garbage.

That being said yes you are correct, SMW was garbage.
Virgil Hill was never held a title @175 during Calzaghe's SMW reign having lost his before Calzaghe beat Eubank, he moved up to Cruiser in 1998 calzaghe had all of 2 defences at that time.

Calzaghe would beat ANY of the proposed fighters you people mention. All in their prime too.

              Jones is a fcuking *****

              Benn was MASSIVELY over rated

              I could go on.

              idiots.

He was still a top contender until 1999, I believe. At least up until towards the end of '98 when he took a tune-up at cruiser. Calzaghe was champ in 1997 and a ranked super middle. But let's compare the two divisions, man.

Not interesting at all - not a shock either.

LMAO @ Antwun Echols making the top five.

Be honest is Echols any worse at top 5 than Erdei?

                      Honestly now.

The ring title was vacant because Ottke was top 2 and refused to fight anyone he couldn't get a home town win off.
