Joe Cortez was unfair to Hatton, and no doubt threw him off his game plan.

But having said that, I think Floyd would have probably won anyway, because of his ring smarts, reach advantage, and technical skills.

The behavior of Cortez smeared Mayweather's win - it was ****** and unnecessary.

being real tho, your view of the fight will be swayed by whether or not you think the referee was doing a fair job, you're a Mayweather so no doubt you would think the ref did a fair job etc

I'm a stan! What's funny is I was so pumped up and hoping Hatton would win that when he got knocked out it was almost surreal. My friends and I walked out of the bar almost unable to say anything to eachother. The feeling was similar to in lockstock and 2 smoking barrels when the guy loses a ton of cash in poker(complete disbelief.) I wasn't so shocked at the result but at the speed and thudding fashion of it. To this day I can't sit through the whole fight comfortably b/c I wanted Hatton to win so bad. However, I am not delusional and I think it embarasses Ricky Hatton fans when the real Stans(Your ****** ass) won't take the loss like men.

Co sign this.. However, if it was Smoger who had a catch phrase I would like it. I just don't like it b/c his actions always contradict the fair part to some degree.. However, in this fight it wasn't Mayweather and not Cortez who caused the result.

It really annoys me when Hatton cries because Cortez didn't allow him to fight on the inside with all that hugging. It's his own fault he's a one dimensional fighter, he should've fought another. It doesn't matter anyways, Floyd still would've kicked his arse.

Yeah, catch phrase isn't bad. The problem is Cortez comes off as a d*ck and he's not good at what he does. Ironically he's not always fair and he's way harsher than just firm. He shouldn't be on anymore big cards. He takes too much focus away from the event.

actually Cortez was widely criticised by the UK commentators, UK fighters (incl. David Haye and Lennox Lewis) and the UK press. It was clear what was happening, Cortez was jumping in to seperate the fighters because Floyd's camp had put pressure on all through the build-up bitching about referees, the Tszyu fight etc, Hatton never once mentioned referees or criticised Floyd's prior achievements. Then the girl Mayweather came out of the fight calling it a war, the guy never even seen a war, he'd have known war if Cortez wasn't pulling Hatton off him every two seconds.

And yeah Hatton won those early rounds, he made the fight happen but he could've done much more damage if not ended the contest had Cortez not blocked him NFL style.

I watched the fight on a Setanta broadcast and their exact words were "Mayweather is in a different class than Hatton". Mayweather was in a war before he met Ricky, does Castillo ring a bell? Any time Hatton and Mayweather were on the inside Floyd was getting the better of him. He was winning the battle and the war. Battle=Hatton being picked apart on the outside with lead right hands and left hooks-War=Ricky getting outworked and out muscled on the inside when he is supposed to be the most dominant in that area. If what you see is true about all the British press blaming Hatton's loss on Cortez only, then they either lack boxing knowledge or have nationalisitic ties. Take a pick....

Floyd was just as dirty if not dirtier in that fight. Elbows to the face, clinching, rabbit punching. Dont try to take the high ground.
