HELP ME UNDERSTAND...the truth behind Mayweather / Pacquiao.

Pretty Boy Floyd is a sensational boxer who is arguably the best pound-for-pound boxer there is. Pac-man Pacquiao has got much better since his fighting days with Marquez, that made him an arguably stronger boxer in the ring. Mayweather's awesome defense makes him look like a cowardly boxer to the boxing world, just because he backs up a lot on defense when he boxes opponents. Some spectator fans said the same about Muhammad Ali, how he used his rope-a-dope tricks throughout his whole career, afterwards the Cassius Clay era. However, defense wins a lot of sporting games metaphorically speaking.
The Mexicutioner's (Pacquiao) boxing style clearly defines him to be agile, very swift, and fearlessly straightforward in his fighting approach. Money Mayweather's boxing style is backwards of this somewhat, due to his awesome defense which gets overlooked too many times by fan spectators, but not by sports commentators. Both of them indefinitely deserves the respect they have earned within the square arena they box in. Also, both have K.O. power but Pac-man seems to have it all: more agility, quickness, and perserverance with his knock-outs, since he seems to be like a little boy wonder in the ring (his short size in comparison to opponents to Oscar De La Hoya. He TKO'd him when Floyd couldn't. That brings back up the question to who really is the best pound for pound boxer since Pac-man is back in action.Comment

I forgot to say that Floyd has like I think five championship belts in five different weight classes, not including a sixth championship belt inside one of the weight divisions mentioned previously (hidden within context). With those types of credentials, how can you not say he isn't the best boxer for the pound for pound boxer of all-time title. Even if maybe Pacquiao might be able to take Mayweather in a match, still Pac-man does not have those credentials. Maybe Pac-man is the better boxer, or maybe its Floyd who is the better boxer. Still, we don't know for sure who would win between the two. Mayweather to me is the best pound for pounder boxer in the world and the greatest pound for pounder of all-time. Credentials are credentials, and nobody else has them except for '"Pretty Boy" Floyd' '"Money" Mayweather'. Pacquiao just doesn't have six boxing titles, five within different weight classes (divisions), besides being undefeated 39-0, although he was almost undefeated with only two losses and more matches won within his 40s.
You might feel Rocky Marciano did not face as many boxing greats in his time as Joe Louis or Muhammad Ali, but still maybe Marciano was too good of a fighter he out-shined all the would be greater boxers if they boxed in Louis' or Ali's eras. Maybe they would have been better boxers than Louis and Ali themselves. You have to go with records and the categories within themselves. Technically by his boxing record and belts (titles), Mayweather is the better pound for pounder.Last edited by TFRaft; 01-09-2009, 01:56 AM.Comment

skillwise Floyd is better than Manny but the skills don't win the fights it's how you USE the skills and WHO you've beaten with those skills, Floyd can be as skilled as he wants but it wont matter until he puts it to the test against a real threat. he took on Hatton at a weight where Luis Collazo beat the **** out of him and showed the world that Hatton doesn't belong in Welterweight, what does Floyd go and do? he baits Hatton back up to Welterweight, a weight that, once again, Hattoin had prior shown he didn't belong in and to no surprise he won. he tried the same **** with Cotto at 140, at his worst he was willing to accept airplane peanuts to fight him but at his best he suddenly doesn't bring enough bread to the mix, straight hipocrite..
lastly if Manny beats Hatton then he will have beaten the best 2 names on Floyd's last 8 fights, add those 2 names to Marquez, Barrera and Morales and I think it will be pretty clear who is the proven best out of the 2. skills only take you so far, it's certainly not criteria to be awarded best pound for pound fighter, it helps but pound for pound goes to the guy who fought the best and beat them, Pacquiao has done this year in and year out but due to promotions and bull**** talking Floyd overshadowed Manny, now that is over.. Manny is the BEST pound for pound fighter in the world regardless whether Floyd had retired or not due to his fearlessness, his will to be the best by beating the best and not choosing only money fights. you say u want to understand right? so understand this, Marquez alone is better than Floyd's last 5 opponents merged into 1 big body, like seriously man this isn't even debateable and I don't understand your confusion, it's clear as day why Pacquiao gets more credit because when the people demanded he fights someone he gave them what they pay for like a real champion and didn't give out excuses not to face the men that stand before him whether money or reputation. this sport is about fighting it isn't a talk show and so far Floyd has done nothing but talk when the time has come to face the best men in HIS OWN weight class..Comment

I will defintiely compare them.
pac went 1-2 against morales who was not a great 130lb fighter.. morales prime was 122. that is his legacy. pac just caught him at the time he had outgrown 130. that is why roach insisted the third fight be at 130 when it was clear morales was not in any way capable of making the weight anymore.
pac did not fight morales in his prime which was 122.
pac went 02 against barrera so did junior jones who looked much better then pac in beating barrera twice..nuff said.
pac went 1-1 agaisnt marquez who everyone is acting like is a great fighter..first off marquez is 7-2 in championship fights (he is 34) as compared to zab judah who is 16-6..no ****ing comparison... marquez's biggest win is a washed up marco barrera
floyd on the other hand fought the toughest fighters in their prime weight...genaro, castillo, corrales, chavez, hernandez, were all in their prime's when floyd defeated and in most cases annihilated them.
pac can't say the same on any level.
barrera prime weight--122
morales prime weight--122
marquez prime weight--126
pac is cherry picking that is why he didn't step up and face nate campbell at 135 and instead went for the weakest champ in david diaz.
I wonder why ricky reed and deveel haven't addressed this.
if you want to say a 31 year old floyd in his fourth weight class with two bad hands ducked a guy with 5 losses in margarito go ahead but I got my belt out ready to whip some assComment

Yes Floyd beat him, but i would'nt say he did it easily. Judah won 4-5 rounds against Floyd, and was giving Floyd all he can handle for the first half of the fight.Comment

...Jus cuz you give a fighter a hard fight for the 1st few rounds and dominate him after don't make it a hard fight

hey man...
serious question...
taking in consideration the date.time/prime factors.
Who do you consider has represented the biggest threat for floyd?
im taking some heat for my answer.. but since u seem to have follow may career pretty well.... i would like to know your feedback.
heres the question
this was about which number do u consider ricky hatton in mays resume.
this was my call. taking in consideration the factors. when did they fight.. and if they were in their or closer to their prime. type of styles.. etc...
1- Judah
2- Castillo
3- DLH
4- Hatton
5- Corrales
this is all about oppinions.. so thats mine....
I've never go into a fight of mayweather thinking that he was going to loose. But if i have to say in which one I was more tend to think that he was going get a run for his money. Im sticking to my answer Zab Judah.
