Roach: We'll Fight Mayweather at Catchweight!!
Collapse

Somebody doesn't understand Boxing
Pacquiao a champion at 135..
Mayweather is at 147..
Pavlik and Hopkins fought at a catchweight of 170 instead of 175..
Why the hell would Pacquiao move up 2 division to fight if Floyd can make a catchweight of 140 or 142..Comment

what the hell is wrong with you guys. Floyd is not a 147 pounder anyways. He only moved up to fight Oscar, same with Manny. Oscar vs Pac fight was purely on Dela Hoyas terms as with Floyd. Floyd is can easily fight at 140.
The catch weight will probably be around 140 to 145 in between there somewhere. And thats actually giving Floyd a great advantage, that way he keeps his speed and his natural weight he usually likes fighting at. He moved up to chase after the big money makers and was never planning on fighting at that weight again against any of the big fighters like Marg, Paul, or even Cotto.. Even before the Oscar fight, Pac already said he would go down to 140 to fight Hatton. So to tell Pac to fight at that weight again is just bull ****. Lot of you haters are just afraid Floyd might lose. Floyd can easily make 140, and there probably going to let it be at 143 or something like that.
Let this fight happen. Forget Hatton, bring on Floyd.Comment

NO to Margarito of course.
I'm wondering if this will be a Leonard moment for Floyd though: remember when Leonard had a little layoff to fix his eye...he fought Kevin Howard and was put on his ass. Leonard did come back to win by KO, but he was distraught with how he fought and he retired. I think that was the first time. Many would come.Comment

You don't get the point do you?
If Pac can fight Oscar at 147, why not fight little Floyd at 147. Both fighters will just gain weight by fight time anyway, so what's the point of making fighters drain weight for the charade of acting like it is a 140 fight?
Floyd's all muscle anyway and hasn't fought at 140 since Gatti...oh, just like Oscar's last time.
Roach is only doing this to get another advantage for Manny. He knows it will take more out of Floyd than Manny.Comment

Pac can't make 135 anymore according to Roach...which is why he moved up to 140, but since Oscar came a calling, he fought him at 147.
No point in a catch-weight. Just fight at 147.
What's the big issue with this weight thing? Why can't you just fight a fighter at a healthy weight?Comment

It's why I mentioned Haye. Certain fighters I have incredible respect for: Holyfield, except with the possible steroid issue; Chris Byrd...yeah, Chris Bryd: the guy was like a middleweight in the amatuers and bulked up to be a HW and fought HUGE MFs and didn't complain. And now, David Haye, despite already saying he has an advantage in speed and agility over the division, he knows these MFs are strong and can take you out with one punch. So what does he do, even though he is at such disadvantages; he fights and wants the top two dogs.Yeah man this is some ***** **** just make the fight already, like someone said fight the fighter not the scales.Manny is a ill fighter but damn i'm starting to hate his fans more then margaritos. This guy espadas recently started posting dissing mexicans in all his post, hope he get's bannedComment

mr. benny , pac was at 122 and had to move up to 126 to fight barrera and marquez. It's why I mentioned Haye. he was at 126 and had to move up to 130 to fight morales.
now he moved to 147 to meet oscar. before he beat oscar did you even think manny should be fighting at 147?
no. he just moved to 147 for that one fight. the rest of his fights will be at 140 either with hatton or the rubber with juanma.
floyd is a natural 135-140 guy to me. he'll have no problems making 140.Comment

I hope Pacquiao knocks out Hatton in 6 rounds in his natural weight of 140, ****ting all over Mayweather's career.....then retires when Floyd comes challenging him just as Floyd did when Margarito and Cotto came looking 4 him.
Wont karma be a ***** when that happensComment

Manny kept maturing which is why he kept moving up...according to Freddie.mr. benny , pac was at 122 and had to move up to 126 to fight barrera and marquez.
he was at 126 and had to move up to 130 to fight morales.

no. he just moved to 147 for that one fight. the rest of his fights will be at 140 either with hatton or the rubber with juanma.
floyd is a natural 135-140 guy to me. he'll have no problems making 140.
And NO; I never thought Pac would be fighting at 147.
But, my point still stands: Why make a 30+ year old fighter, who hasn't fought in a year, and by fight time may be two years, have to make a weight he hasn't made in about 3 years, would be going on 4 by fight time?
If you can fight one fighter at 147; you can fight Floyd, who like you say, isn't a natural Welter.
Why go through the charade of making a fighter drain weight for the weigh-in, only to have the fighters put weight back on for fight time? Why not just have them show up by fight-time weight and make sure in the contract it states that no fighter can be over 149?
Floyd comes in around 149 and Pac has shown he goes up towards 147+
Not that hard to figure out...and it's not hard to see what Freddie is trying to do.
Oh, and the big benefit to the Promotion; they can always say Floyd is still the LEGIT 147 pound Champion and Manny has a chance to win a title at 147. I'm sure Golden Boy/Ring will work something out with giving the belt back to Floyd for the Promotion.Last edited by Benny Leonard; 12-09-2008, 05:00 AM.Comment
