Mayweather wanted the Gatti payday. Just like Shane wanted the Oscar payday.

      2. Mayweather's run at 140 was when Tszyu was still on top. Remember, Hatton unseated Tszyu when Mayweather was in the division. I think Mayweather was trying to get a PPV name before fighting Tszyu, but... I wasn't around, so I'm not 100% sure.
Mayweather's plan was to get to Tszyu but there were some problems: Floyd was on HBO and Tszyu was on Showtime. Hatton was on Showtime so that was the easier fight to be made...so he took it for the money and Ricky may have been his mandatory for one of his belts...not sure.

Floyd fought and beat Gatti for his title.

Floyd was at 140 for one reason: Kostya Tszyu. Tszyu lost to Hatton. So Floyd called Hatton to make a fight and Hatton's team refused twice. So Floyd moved up to face Oscar...who wouldn't.

Yup. Gatti brought Floyd attention and Money..oh, and a title. It would help set the stage for a showdown with Tszyu.

        Tszyu lost to Hatton.

          This we agree on, Benny.

In fact, in that same press conference where called Tszyu an A class fighter, he called out Oscar again and said he was willing to go to 154. Of course, most of the media chuckled.

Well Mayweather should be greatful to Hatton then.

Ricky chased the glory, Floyd chased the money.

is it glory to be killed in the ring by mayweather and delahoya? taking fights you know you can't win just for the money is disgraceful.

Floyd couldn't get the fight made; he was on HBO and Tszyu was on Showtime. Both parties wanted a reason why to come together. Floyd gave them one: I'm going to be popular after I kicked the **** out of Gatti.

They were talking about a PPV show.

You would be surprised how many people didn't know Floyd until after Gatti. Gatti was more popular and was getting those paydays.

And you should go over the Tszyu vs. Leija fight.

And what does it say when Hatton turned down Floyd twice at 140?

So when fighters chase the best, they are disgraceful?

                    I see.

Floyd couldn't draw straws let alone a crowd before Gatti.
