Hopkins was the best light heavyweight and he beat him. Dawson's name has only come up because Pavlik lost last month.

Give me a break, First off Hopkins isnt even a true light heavyweight he was a middleweight, Secondly Calzaghe only fought Hopkins and Jones at Light Heavy so I dont recognize him as the man at light heavy. Chad Dawson is the man at light heavy and Calzaghe doesnt want none of him and that's a fact so stop making up excuses.

I would say that Prime Jones vs Prime Calzaghe is a very close fight...no clear winner.

Yea, you are fooled into thinking that because Joe fought and one sidedly beat the Roy Jones that is fighting now @ 39. This was by no stretch a resemblence of what would have happened pre-2003. You are falling for the exact thing Calzaghe hoped his fans would have. Cong****.

I had to take a **** on this toilet ass thread..........maybe Ricky ran into that turnbuckle too hard and forgot what fighters do......they fight dumb ass! Of course people wanna see the BEST fight any and everybody they feel is a threat to his throne. Regardless what Ricky or any other clown might say or think.......Joe Calzaghe should fight Chad Dawson......I'm not sayin' Joe wouldn't win, I just wanna see how he deals with a slick young southpaw.......this is a very interesting match up. They both have been dropped more than once and they both have been on the good end of what many thought were bad decisions......so Calzaghe-Dawson is not rubbish from a boxing fan's perspective......maybe from the British boxing perspective(Big up South London) but if you really look at the picture closely.....Joe hasn't been in no wars and he's virtually out worked every opponent he's ever faced.........what beating did he take that said he needed to retire? or is all this walk away(run with ya 0 while ya still have it) talk there's nothing left to prove **** really "FEAR"..........fear of maybe losing? thats what this sounds like to me. the man is 37 and still throwing close to a thousand punches per 12 rounds...... retire? man please!

A very good post.it really saddens me as a boxing fan to see all this hatred and disrespect for Calzaghe and Jones.First lets deal with joe.all a fighter can do is beat who is in front of him,and joe has done that for his entire career,and people say he hasnt fought anybody? thats crazy! Eubank,Reid,woodhall,sheika,brewer,mitchell,lacy,k essler,hopkins and jones to name a few.to suggest these guys are mugs or bums or whatever is **** out of order to them.as boxing fans we should respect anybody with the balls to pull on the gloves and try to make a living in the toughest sport of all,and to quote Roy Jones,"46-0 dont happen by accident".what joe has achieved is extraordinary,and if he is the coward/slapper most of the pork on here say he is,then what does that say about the guys mentioned above?....Now to Jones.I find it incredible that most of the ******er quotes on here go on about him being ktfo by tarver and johnson.It is universally agreed that Jones was never the same after ruiz!of course he wasnt! what he did was amazing going up and beating a guy he gave 3 stone away to,even after bulking up as he did.lets face it he was already into his thirties and that was a hell of a thing to do to your body,just going up,let alone coming down.that these idiots who have never laced on a glove can allow what happened to detract from the years of entertainment and mindblowing skill before that is laughable,sad and a disgrace,and ultimately says more about the idiot making the comment than it does the fighters who have given us such great viewing over the years...So I raise a glass to Roy Jones and Joe Calzaghe,two fighters who would have held their own in anyones era.You deserve everybodys respect.you certainly have mine.

exactly the kind of pork i was talking about.no respect for the sport or its protagonists.if as you say those fighters were C- or D+ as you would say,then on closer inspection of the records of jones and hopkins,you would see that they had more than their fair share of C-/D+ fighters on their records..and in the case of hopkins,all the b+/a fighters he fought were all fighting well above weights that gave them that grade,and so drop down some grades as well

OK seriously, what makes anyone think Chad Dawson is able to hurt Calzaghe? Since when does Dawson have great power? Does he have more power in his shots than Hopkiins, Jones, and Kessler? No.

It's this simple: if you cannot hurt Joe Calzaghe enough to keep him down, you lose. That's all there is to it. It'd take a decent heavyweight to hurt Joe and keep him down.

Chad Dawson? Maybe he could sting Calzaghe a little, but HURT him? No. You should all know by now that when Calzaghe gets stung, he comes back and makes you pay for it. We have seen this at least 4 times.

Dawson has got no chance. He'd be another opponent reduced to a being a wild swinging one-punch wonder against Joe.

Dawson has more to prove before even thinking about a shot at this, unless everyone wants to see his bubble burst just so they can dump on him and claim he was always over-rated, just like Pavlik and Lacy, and any number of fighters who got "exposed" at elite level. Dawson is yet to take the step up against an elite fighter, and he struggles badly with an excellent fighter like Johnson who applies pressure. Calzaghe's game is all about fast-paced pressure.
