It was an enjoyable fight to watch. And it is an enjoyable fight to discuss. The Margarito win has really opened up a lot of options at 147/154 (although Tony is wussing out).

But, COMMERCIALLY, this fight was a disappointment. The arena was 40% empty, and the PPV sales were low.

    Sorry. Just the facts.
Wait... I thought Margarito was elite and a huge draw??

Mayweather did some solid, but not great, numbers when he was coming up. basically building a name. What Arum did at the time was smart: they moved him around the country and made him fight in various regions:

          7,000 vs Sharmba in Portland.

          5,000 vs Bruseles in Miami

12,000 vs Gatti in AC (gatti would have sold out anyway)

          6,500 vs Corley in AC

9,000 vs NDou in Grand rapids

So, they basically fought him in the northeast, souteast, midwest, southwest, and northwest. Good planning. They needed to do that with Cotto to try to expand his fanbase.

Theres fans out there STARVED of Live boxing, who cant afford to Travel all the way to Vegas or New York, I think its something that should be addresed.
Also Im not a football fan but when Barca play in Scotland or other top teams id go see em just for the event, im sure there would be plenty of people who'd be the same with boxing and if they enjoyed the fight then Bingo NEW boxing fans!

Well, if you want to have that discussion about revenues, we can. ....but I don't think you really want to.

Floyd and Cotto both fought Judah, for example. Do you want to compare those nums?

Do you think that a mayweather-margarito fight would be bigger or smaller than Cotto-margarito? Seriously?

To be honest I just threw that out to taunt but it really didnt do well. Floyd was known at the time though he was coming off two pretty good win off in Vegas. Plus it had Lamon Brewster on the card and if I recall factory he was pretty big and had built a pretty good name at the time being.

                  Floyd mayweather against baldomir:

"He drew just 9,427 fans Saturday night and his previous two pay-per-view fights haven't cracked 375,000 buys. The Baldomir fight probably won't either."

Cotto Margarito did over 450k buys.... not to mention at no point did anyone boooo Marg or Cotto like they did at the Baldomir Mayweather fight (that was sad).

That said, Marg/COtto should have done more, but promotion and publicity was weak. HBO did not go to the extremes of promoting that they have for other big fights.

Furthermore (and this is not racist) Margarito's fan base is pure mexican and probably could not afford tickets. DLH's fans are american or at least americanized, hence they have more money and are not scared of being deported.

The only reason why DLH/Floyd was as successful as it was is because of DLH... not PBF!!!

Mayweather before DLH? I say it does the same maybe a little more because Floyd is American.

You say that, and i can easily post the NDou fight, which was in Grand rapids. Grand rapids doesn't even have a quarter-million population.

Should i post the video?... or will you just stop yourself now?
