It was an enjoyable fight to watch. And it is an enjoyable fight to discuss. The Margarito win has really opened up a lot of options at 147/154 (although Tony is wussing out).

But, COMMERCIALLY, this fight was a disappointment. The arena was 40% empty, and the PPV sales were low.

    Sorry. Just the facts.
Just the facts? Where do you get your facts? And remind me to never look at the same source as you because it's full of **** as u are. 40%? Do you know exactly how 40% would look? Considering the arena was completely packed, I don't know what school teaches you what 40% should look like.

I just called MGM right now and the person said that 14,600 tickets were sold.
That didnt include the VIP and Reserved seating. They were at or just about at capacity for the fight, and they expect the Hatton fight to do the same.

Here is the number, do this. CAll the phone number and talk to them, ask them how many seats were sold for the Cotto vs Margs fight because you expect to go down there with a big group of people, and there werent that many open seats, and they will tell you the same thing.

      What a ****in dumb ass.

      Here is the number 1877-880-0880.

I just called 1-800 ASS-HOLE and it said that the fight did 10,477......

The Arena said that the fight did well?? That is truly shocking stuff. Great work there.

            Here is the REAL story...

"On July 26th, for an hour at least, the bickering came to an end.

A great fight isn’t necessarily a big event: So much of boxing is illusion; how a fight is sold and how the result is spun afterward. Cotto-Margarito never became a big event. Arum put the bout in Las Vegas. Part of his motivation was that there’s a huge pay-per-view market in the southwest and California that Cotto had been unable to penetrate. The theory was that a Vegas site would engender more media coverage in those markets and hence more pay-per-view buys.

The MGM Grand Garden Arena seats 16,000. A disappointing crowd of 10,477 attended the fight. Puerto Rico vs. Mexico is still essentially an east coast rivalry. The bout would have been better attended had it taken place at Madison Square Garden or in Atlantic City."

                DAN RAFAEL:

Antonio Margarito and Miguel Cotto gave fight fans what they wanted -- a riveting slugfest with a dramatic ending, writes Dan Rafael.

LAS VEGAS -- Well, it lived up to its billing, didn't it? Boxing fans, with sky-high expectations for the fight between Antonio Margarito and Miguel Cotto, appropriately named "The Battle" by promoter Top Rank, got exactly what they asked for: A riveting slugfest with a dramatic ending that left the throbbing crowd of 10,477 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in ecstasy.

And when it was over, it was Margarito, the underdog, who was the new welterweight champion after knocking Cotto down twice in the 11th round before his trainer and uncle, Evangelista Cotto, climbed the steps and waived a white towel in resignation to end a sensational fight Saturday night.

If the tickets have been sold, then who cared if they show up. They got the money for the tickets anyway. I'll believe the Grand before I believe a sports writer. You know, soprts writers tend to bend the truth.

                    THE UNLV PAPER:

Margarito bests Cotto in welterweight bout
The most avoided man in boxing gave good reason for his title
                    By: Matt Maxson, Sports Editor

                    IN BRIEF
Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Shane Mosley proved something outside the ring Saturday – they knew what they were doing when they avoided fights with Antonio Margarito.

Margarito (37-5, 27 KOs) recorded a technical knockout victory over previously unbeaten Miguel Cotto (32-1, 26 KOs) at 2:05 in the 11th round to become the WBA welterweight (147 pounds) champion in front of 10,477 fans at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Despite a strong start by Cotto, Margarito managed to shrug off nearly half the punches thrown. Margarito advanced through the early rounds and added his own pressure throwing nearly 100 punches a round.

WAIT: When Rafael says 450K buys, he is telling the truth, but when he says 10,477 in attendance he is lying??

                      OK. Got it.
