Let's be real here, Joe's comp in his prime was ropey but not THAT bad. Here's where you get to say I'm biased cos I'd suggest it was equal to a prime Hopkins. But the US only took note when he spanked a Yank.
Please. Not even the Brits next door took note.

I'd be inclined to agree with you but comparing Hopkins and Calzaghe is like comparing night and day. Calzaghe was with a big time promoter who could make things happen (ahem, Naseem Hamed, Ricky Hatton, etc). Hopkins on the other hand, was shunned by promoters, networks and fighters for the better part of his career. I'm not even a fan of Hopkins but I respect him a great, great deal because I've been following boxing long enough to know what he did, how he did it, and the impact of his success. I've also been following boxing long enough to remember when Calzaghe first hit the scene. If you're a true fan of the sport, you watch the world. And I'm from Africa!

I could discuss further in detail but I suggest we make a respectful thread about it and do it there. I'd much rather stick to the subject than go off on a Hopkins-Calzaghe tangent.

Warren did always rue the fact that Joe wasn't that marketable... he's hardly Mr. Charisma, is he?

Having said that, I do wonder how much clout he has to make major fights. hatton was fighting scraps for years.

IMO Eubank was never anything great, nor was it a GREAT win. But a WIN is a WIN and Joe made the best of the situation. Which was HYPE this guy as much as possible and win the fight. Again a win is a win and he did what he needed to do. So "at the end of the day" Joe is still undefeated.

Also I never understand why Brits think everyone is out to get them. I also don't understand why people still to this day use the term "Yank". If your like 90 years old OK I understand then, because my grandparents use that term every so often. But really its kind of old. I know that you "THINK" your using it as in insult, but its really not. Just makes you look really ****** and or OLD.

That's because his worshippers came out in droves to watch it. And after words, wouldn't stop declaring his greatness. A dangerous practice, I think.

Nevertheless, I have a great deal of respect for Hatton - particularly the 140 version. I also respected his insistence on fighting Floyd, even if it just showed they were leagues apart.

Is Duke like the Larry Merchant of british boxing? I never heard this guy in action.

Wess, just read 90% of the posts on here.

Granted, there are a few UK posters who are off their heads, but an objective poster like Anorak can have accusations of "bias" thrown at him when it's not even anything of the kind.

pretty much just like calzaghe but better. 2 of calzaghes best wins(before he fought kessler and hopkins) were woodhall and brewer. keith holmes ko'd woodhall before he fought calzaghe and echols ko'd brewer before calzaghe fought him. hopkins went on to beat them both. echols also beat kabary salem who calzaghe struggled with but i dont even count that dude. looks like the mediocre guys hopkins fought crushed calzaghes mediocre guys in head up competition.
