He doesn't look over to his corner until his uncle/trainer is up on the apron.
Did Miguel Cotto quit??

Watch the look to the corner.
It say:
"Get me out of here."
Hard. But it's true.
Am I criticizing Cotto for quitting?
Naw.
Just observing the double standard when it come to Zab, who showed all the heart in the Cotto fight that Cotto did in the Margarito fight.Comment

In Margarito-Cotto:
Bayless breaks the action in one corner.
Cotto backs up into the other corner and kneels before Margarito can land a shot.
Cotto gets to his feet, takes a few paces and looks to his corner for help.
The towel doesn't come in until Cotto looks to his corner in a world of confusion and hurt.
Then the corner step in and the fight is over.
It's cruel to see a guy who seemed invincible to so many go down like that.
But that's what happened.
Cotto quit to live and fight another day.
He knew he was only getting hurt worst.

Why not be fair to Cotto, and give him credit for being the warrior he is? He didn't quit, he would have continued even though he was badly hurt. There's no quit in him - he's no coward like Floyd.Last edited by The Hammer; 07-27-2008, 10:18 AM.Comment

Cotto wanted to buy time to recover. Obviously he was in a lot of pain. He was using the clock to survive. But kneeling doesn't always mean quitting.Comment

watch the fight again, he was going to his corner before he even saw his trainer/uncle come with the towel, when he saw him u can tell cotto told him yes and just stayed there til the ref stopped the fight..Comment

The point is that he would have fought on had his corner not intervened, to quit means to give up, Cotto wasn't willing to just give up, he was going to go out fighting.
Taking a knee is a good way of buying time to try and clear his head and regain his senses, I don't think he would have survived the round but he was willing to fight thus he didn't give up or quit.
I may be old school but a real warrior goes out on his back, gets KO'd out. I bet you Marg doesn't take a knee, he get's KO'd out.Comment

And Judah did show a lot of heart to stand up to the beating he took.Comment

No he didn't quit really. He was basically saying, OK, you've taken everything I could give, and your still coming at me to win, your the better man, you deserve it, take it. In no way did I see Cotto quitting when he went through hell in some earlier rounds prior to that. He could have quit then but he still had to test Margarito afew more rounds.Comment
