NO. Margarito plan worked to perfection. Cotto may have been the slicker fighter but that did not win him the fight now did it. He went on his knee twice without even being hit with Maragrito's full power. Cotto did quit, but hey they is always next time to get his respect back.
Did Miguel Cotto quit??

Ali's corner stopped the fight, he would have gone on if he they hadn't intervened.
Corrales would have gone on had his corner not stopped the fight.
Cotto would have gone on had his corner not stopped the fight.
Did Cotto look like the beaten fighter? Yes. Did he look broken? Yes. Was Cotto willing to fight on? YES.
I don't see how it is considered quitting if he is willing to fight on.
Your examples are deceptive.
Chico near tried to kill his pops for stopping that fight.Comment

That's how I saw it too. And still, he didn't say to the referee he was unable to continue, he wanted to fight on even though he was physically unable to.Comment

Man, you might as well just save your breath. It's pointless when people want to revel so badly in the defeat of someone and don't want to see what's obvious to most.
All those who are using the "Quitto" moniker are sad as ****. Cotto boxed beautifully for alot of that fight but got beaten by a bigger man who walked through everything he had. How anyone can question or laugh at his heart is beyond me.
Props to both fighters for putting on such a great, spirited show.Comment

Your comments have been right on the money as usual Silencers, saving me the bother of haveing to repeat the same thing. To me quitting is stopping when you have something left (Freitas was a good example you used). Cotto had the fight beat out of him and had nothing left. If you can't stay on your feet it isn't quitting.Comment

First knockdown, no. Second knockdown where he "took a knee" or just litteraly fell in front of Margarito, he did look like he quit. But that dosen't make him any less of a warrior than he was before. Cotto is a warrior with alot of heart, and he'll bounce back.Comment

He didn't even nod at the ref that he wanted to go. He just stood there in shock, and couldn't believe what was happening to him. If he was able to continue why did he run to the corner and get on his knee not once but Twice. Then he got up with in a state of confusion and looked at his corner and walked straight at them. He didn't look like he care what had happened he wanted to leave the ring as fast as possible.Comment
