The nation celebrated Ali like no other! He was treated like a king everywhere he went.

America chose Ali to represent her in the 1960 Olympics. After just one title fight win in 1964, he was on the cover of Time and Life magazines. He was given more attention and treated better by the media than any fighter in history.

America was very, very good to Ali. But he had no respect for his opponents, his wives (who he cheated on then abandoned), or for his country.

Ali was not embraced by his country or the public until he returned from his unjust banishment. After his loss to Frazier, fans realized he wasn't all mouth, but also courageous and skilled. Before that time Ali was treated like second class, EVEN after representing the United States in the olympics.
