A quick refresh on the topic:

    Thornberry (IBO at 168)

Some of the others were strong opponents too:

    Bika (contender champion 2007)
Sheika (was coming off a win over Glen Johnson)

    Some were undefeated:

    Kessler (39-0)
    Lacy (21-0)
    Veit (30-0)
    Hughes (12-0)
    Delaney (21-0)

Calzaghe currently holds the prestigious Ring title in two different weight classes, super middleweight and light heavyweight, at the same time!

It's a very good resume by any standards.

These blanket statements about JC being unwilling to fight so and so are amusing. It is like these people were
privy to the information. When in actuality they are just making huge assumptions to back up their flimsy opinions. You cant fight someone who isnt in your weight class.

DLH's resume is impressive. Calzaghe's resume is solid but not impressive.

Joe C's ability to remain undefeated while defending his title over 20X's is by far the crowning ***el of his career...You've got to be good to defend a belt that many times and not suffer a defeat regardless of the opponent...As for his resume it's average at best...

If you look at the facts, basically the only "prime, great" fighter that Joe could have fought as a SMW defence is Roy Jones, and really what would that prove or disprove about Calzaghe?

If he wins, what, he's P4P #1 in the world?

If he lose, what, he's not as good as Roy Jones?

The first is a lot to prove for someone some people think is a "joke" and the second would hardly make Calzaghe a bad fighter would it?

Because when he was younger he was working to pay his morgage, why move up and fight a bum in hope of fighting Jones (for **** money) when you can make money fighting in your own back yard making money.

Risk vs reward happens with everyone.

Jones only would have offered Calzaghe 20% of the pay which wouldn't have been much at the time because Joe wasn't a name and even hated in the UK by some English fans.

I bet Calzaghe made more against Mitchell than he would have in a possible Jones fight.

But if he wins or lose people would have less to hate on him about ex Hatton get more credit for losing to :chickenboy: then :chickenboy: gets for winning

But to hate on Calzaghe for not having fought RJJ is ludicrous. Also, shouldn't RJJ have fought Joe?
