Well, its kind of hard to argue against Mayweathers p4p #1 status, basically. He has the best wins and the best performances of any boxer in the sport right now. At the same time I find it very hard to imagine him beating Calzaghe in a p4p contest, because I can see Calzaghe just ignoring his potshots and hunting him down. Not sure if thats a logical opinion though, maybe a bit more wishful thinking. Who knows?Comment

i cant see him beating Floyd Mayweather if they were both naturally the same weight TBH , personally i think Oscar Dela Hoya is a better boxer than Joe Calzaghe and he could'nt manage to get the job done so i cant see Joe being able toWell, its kind of hard to argue against Mayweathers p4p #1 status, basically. It goes like this for me. A smaller Calzaghe? Yeah I could see that guy beating Mayweather. A bigger Mayweather? Uh Oh! See what I'm saying.
Also, I hope you aren't suggesting that old Oscar is anywhere near Calzaghe as a boxer, because no way could I possibly agree with that. Prime Oscar is a different story, but I'd need to check out his career fights before I'd try to judge who was the best. I'm sure you realise by now, but my opinion is that Calzaghe is a pretty special fighter, remaining drastically underrated to this day. I think what he basically does is what he needs to to win, based on his opponent, and I think he's capable of more than most realise. I might explain it better some time, but now isn't the time or the place.Comment

I think thats a little strong, I don't think that guy is close to the best fighter that ever lived, and as I said (but perhaps did not make clear) I'd be very afraid for Joe to fight a 168 lb Mayweather(!).
However, I think Calzaghe is way better than he is given credit for, even now. He has all the physical gifts (prime) and also an uncanny ability to work out the way to beat his opponents. Of all the fighters of the 90s - 00s era, he is the one that impresses me most all around, not as strong as others in some areas, but with no real major weaknesses either. I don't expect anyone to agree with me though, as it is pretty extreme!Comment
