Not only can Tommy hit like hell, but he is an incredibly accurate puncher.

Firstly, I dont think Hearns' chin is much of an issue here.

Floyd is not a big punching welterweight, he didn't rock Judah once to my recollection (beat on him middle-to-late rounds, never did damage with any one punch),didn't come close to troubling Baldomir with power and although he hurt Hatton that was more accumulative punishment with the constant counters, and Ricky was clearly out of his depth at the weight.

Secondly I agree with the points about Floyd fighting in the pocket, and that can work against Hearns but his sheer physical strength could come into play (Benitez felt it in clinches). Steward was good at getting his tall, rangy fighters to use their body weight against younger guys and physically wear them out. That pockets a risky vacuum for Floyd to be in, though he can work well in there. Personally I dont think Hearns stays there for long, he keeps the fight on the outside and Lil Floyd on the end of them big punches. The sheer dimensions are incredibly difficult for May to overcome. He's got to weave inside (difficult because as he goes forward Hearns is moving left and right, or backwards), avoid the pinpoint jab and right hand on the way in, THEN STAY THERE long enough to rack up points.
I agree, the idea that Floyd would be able to stay in the pocket against a guy with feet that move like Tommy's is absurd.

Improvements? I can't see much improvements he's made to be frank.

He looked good against Judah, Baldy, he looked pretty lacklustre for some of the Oscar fight. What he's done in the last couple of years has been what he's always did at lower weights, though I thought he was more impressive south of welter because of the speed and greater workrate.

Hearns' movement would cause Floyd a number of problems I believe, and the sheer power. Floyd hasn't fought a big puncher at welterweight yet

Mayweather looked better in the N'dou and Gatti fights than he has recently.

You guys put these older fights so far above the new ones when the new ones have gotten loads better.

You gotta put their best fights and worst fights together and see who would have done better in each situation.

Floyd is an ATG.. after he takes cotto you guys will start to realize...

Mayweather has SUPERB movement... SUPERB ring generalship... SUPERB intelligence... GREAT hand speed... and SUPERB DEFENSE....

You guys just blow that off everytime you talk about him.

I think thats as much to do with quality of opposition as well, but I dont see what palpable stylistic improvements he's made over the past couple of years. His style hasn't much changed.

I'd say Hearns would catch him. Floyd would have to try and fight really smart, but Hearns was something else.
