He didn't NEED to use the jab against many slower and less talented opponentes. You'll see PBF using the jab when he has too against top talented and fast opponents.
The Judah fight especially the first 6-7 rounds before Judah faded you'll see PBF snapping jabs, pawing ranger finding jabs and counter jabs, even double jabs. Why because its harder to land lead rights on a guy with the reflexes and talent of Judah than it is on Baldomir.
You'll see it also against Corley. He uses the double jab and worked off the jab especially early in the fight. Corley is another very fast fighter whom lead rights and counter punching would be difficult on.
PBF takes the path of least resistance. He can obviously fight on the inside but chose to tie Hatton up on the inside earlier in there fight by choice not inability. He doesn't use his jab that often by choice not inability. He is fast enough to land lead left hooks and lead rights on most guys when he isn't then he will use the jab.
But, if he hasn't needed to do that yet, then you really don't know if he's able to beat a guy on his level, but as quick as him, or quick enough to stop those hooks. I'm not saying he doesn't have a jab, he jabs to the body a lot. But this isn't about how great he is. He's great, I won't argue that. It's about how complete he is, and like ALL fighters, he isn't complete. No fighter is.
The answer to the question is no. Floyd is not a complete fighter, he is a very very good counter-puncher.
When is the last time you saw Floyd get on his toes and work behind a jab? Never? Exactly.
Complete is the ability to do EVERYTHING. That is not Floyd, he does what he does very very very very well, but he is not able to do everything.
round 9 vs hatton, the thing is, he could if he wanted to, but he thinks from another perspective. What works right now. What punches or strategy work and he'll apply that.
Some fighters show different styles troughout a fight just for the sake of completeness or are more or less confused at what to do, you never get that sense with floyd mayweather.
The ability to think and fight for 12 rounds, and stay sharp and illusive,
There is hardly a fighter with that skill like his.

I was gonna mention round 9 against hatton, that was the first time ive seen him jab someones head off because I think it was necessary. He did lots of things in that fight that iv not seen before, I thought it was his best performance.
He didn't counter punch against judah, and many other fights which im not gonna list. Fact of the matter is he didn't always counter punch in the hatton fight, he started leading off because hatton's footspeed and handspeed was giving him problems in the first 3 rounds, so he realised he had to get his shot off first. I think anyone who has seen the fight would agree with this analysis.
He is the most complete fighter today, easily...very easily, I would say his defensive attributes are better than his attacking but absolutely complete nonetheless, and ive been one of his biggest critics in the past couple of years in terms of choice of opponents.
he is the best fighter out there. there is no such thing as complete even tho pbf has hardly any faults. he may have a few minor ones like too defensive etc but he is the best there is.
i just dont think cottos done enough in his career as a whole what mayweather has, yet people like to group them together like their equals... career wise...
Mayweather is probably the most versatile boxer out there.
Complete? No.
I don't think any top tier boxer can afford to be complete. They need to excell in what they do best. They can't be good in all areas, that would not make them able to beat the best.
