I'll one up you Ill show you

Look at 1:12 that opening was created by jabs all night long. Look at Diego try to slap the jab away, but gets hit with a left hook. That sir is what a setup jab does.

Look at 2:53 that sir is a double jab, that leads to an opening for a straight right. That is called a set up jab. And it also included a feint.

Look at the setup jabs that opened Zab up, at 3"13. Again a set up jab.

Look at the range finder jab at 3:32

Feint jab at 4:04 that sets up the right hands.

And floyd on his toes at 4:12

    need I say more?

To me, career-wise, they are not. But in terms of positioning in the division that they both occupy, they are champ and number 1 contender. You can tell me about the money, and all of that. I get it. I'm all for business. But the fact remains that this is boxing. Champ faces his number 1 contender, to prove supremacy. You don't get out of matches by having accomplished more before the fight.

How would 'torch-passing' matches ever take place if it went that way?

How could you test a young bucks heart and skills if he was essentially never allowed to step it up?

I thought stepping up the comp. was the whole point.

I think he's as close to a complete fighter in the sport right now.

He didn't NEED to use the jab against many slower and less talented opponentes. You'll see PBF using the jab when he has too against top talented and fast opponents.

The Judah fight especially the first 6-7 rounds before Judah faded you'll see PBF snapping jabs, pawing ranger finding jabs and counter jabs, even double jabs. Why because its harder to land lead rights on a guy with the reflexes and talent of Judah than it is on Baldomir.

You'll see it also against Corley. He uses the double jab and worked off the jab especially early in the fight. Corley is another very fast fighter whom lead rights and counter punching would be difficult on.

PBF takes the path of least resistance. He can obviously fight on the inside but chose to tie Hatton up on the inside earlier in there fight by choice not inability. He doesn't use his jab that often by choice not inability. He is fast enough to land lead left hooks and lead rights on most guys when he isn't then he will use the jab.

If that is seriously how you judge fighters positions then you are building on a stack of cards. How did anyone become great then? Who did SRR beat to be considered the greatest (#1) of all time. List them. then who did they beat to get where they are considered et al et al

Sooner or later it all falls down like the US housing market.

I'll give a more detailed answer if you like, but it should be pretty clear what I'm on about.

It makes me chuckle to think that we have a dominant fighter over the past 4-5 years in floyd mayweather yet it isn't conceivable that he might be in the top 50 or so of all time. Boxing must be in a serious rut in that case.
