Margarito is no slouch, that is true. But when you have the kind of wide-open defense and lack of hand or foot speed, forgive me for being skeptical in the absence of an A-list fighter on his resume'. His best wins have been over Kermit Cintron. What he proved in the last fight is that yes, he can still beat Cintron. Outside of that, nothing new was really established.

Regardless of excuses or other explanations, a loss is a loss and underlines the presence of flaws. Whatever flaws exist were enough that they held Margarito back from beating 5 guys.

Top Rank has done a great job of promoting and publicizing Margarito. He is held in high esteem even without the existence of a big win. They find him guys who he runs over and it generates a wow factor.

What we still don't know is what happens when an elite fighter is put in front of him (i.e. Cotto, Mayweather) that has the tools to exploit Margarito's deficiencies. As highlight reel-worthy as beating Cintron was, Cintron is not Cotto or Mayweather.

In the absence of big fights to point at, what we get instead is talk. Talk oftentimes cannot be substantiated; it's gossip, hearsay etc. The talk I'm referring to are Margarito's camp's parade of names they allege have ducked Margarito. Lampley himself said during Margarito's walkout for the Paul Williams fight that the reputation of Margarito has been built largely on the fighters who have "ducked" Margarito and not the actual fighters he has beaten.

It can be said that the aura of Margarito stems from talk. Should he triumph over Cotto, what he will have proven is that his will and determination can overcome his glaring flaws. Until then, he is still unproven and flawed.

I don't understand the point of your thread. You're not willing to jump on Margarito's bandwagon? Then, don't!

You're saying that his best win is against Cintron? Wrong, try again!

You talk about Tony having 5 losses in his career. How many losses does Glen Johnson have?

An elite fighter was put in front of him. His name is Clottey. Now, if Cintron doesn't get knocked out twice by Margarito, he is elite, right?

The fact of the matter is, all the people saying that Floyd ducked Margarito and was offered 8 Mil. blah blah don't know ****. Just like me! We are on the outside looking in and forced to go on what other people tell us. Whos to say any of these people are telling the truth? You don't know so stop acting like you do. This is business and people do and say whatever they can to get the edge.

Again provide some proof, the fact is Floyd made the same amount of cash, The only thing Floyd did in fighting Baldimor was, taking the opponent who was easier to win against and easier to look good against, then again I remember Tiger Woods leaving early when a golf player gets bored at your fights, something is wrong.

I can't even think what this fight is going to be like. You got a guy that can wear you down vs. a guy that refuses to quit. Margarito is like a rechargeable battery the more you hit him the more you charge him up. Cotto is a wrecking ball its only a matter of time before he knocks you down. Who's will is the strongest.... Who's got the power to put the other fighter down. This is going to be way better than Mayweather vs. Cotto because this fight is going to have fireworks... its going to have knockdowns... its going to be fought on nothing but heart and determination. I can't wait to see a aztec warrior vs. a taino warrior. As a proud Puerto Rican I've got to go for my man Cotto but this is a pick'em fight and I'm smart enough to know the difference. This is going to be like the days of the gladiators, one man enter one man leave type of ****. Co-sign if your can't wait to see these two warriors step in and prove "Who is mas macho!!!"

Margarito ain't beaten a lot of top guys cuz he ain't fought a lot of top guys cuz they've had no interest in fightin him. I'm a Margarito fan and I get as annoyed as his haters with all the 'most feared ****', but he is a guy that has been avoided to some degree. He'll get his props if he beats Cotto. If not it's back to the drawin board.
