Floyd transcends weight like Pernell Whitaker and James Toney. Skills paid the bills for those two against many bigger and stronger fighters. The difference is, Floyd at 162lbs would still come in fighting shape as usual.
A 162 weigh in Floyd...would be a 158 pound fight night Floyd and out box Calzaghe to a UD.

It's doubtful. Threadstarter does as best as you could possibly do for making a case for Floyd at SMW but the money weight isn't there. It's the super welters. And Floyd's about money.

Yeah, no doubt. Hell, I'll be surprized to see Floyed take on legit LMW competition, let alone MW.

floyd needs to fight an elite welter fist then a true super welter
                then a supermiddleweight

Despite Lifestyle Flashy Money Persona, I've always believed that Floyd takes the historical/legacy aspect into account when fighting.

Huge difference jumping up 2 weight classes beating a guy who turned pro in 1993 and has spend the last 10 years building his record into what it is then fightin a guy like Cotto who turned Pro in 2001 and isn't even a Solidified future Hall of Famer yet. The reward would outweigh the risk for Floyd in this fight.

Of course Floyd would have to see what I see which is a weakness in Joe's fighting style that Floyd could take advantage of.

                  Anyway........it's all hypothetical anyway.

If Floyd beats both Cotto and Margarito there will be no question in my mind. No need imo for Floyd to Travel to SMW. If he does these 2 things there is nothing but positive I can say about Floyd's legacy.

random noob:Another Floyd Mayweather thread from vladimir303?

                      noob2: surely not?

random noob: yes but this time he's mentioned an obscure fighter alongside him?

                      noob2: who? Miguel Cotto?

                      random noob: Nope, Joe Calzaghe.

noob2: Ah I see it's the only way he comment on the Calzaghe BHop fight, because vlad only knows one fighter (Floyd) he has to contextualize it in terms of Floyd Mayweather Jr in order to write about it.

                      random noob: Flashy.
