**** UFC is my personal opinion, i hate it....anybody can throw a kick or slam somebody but it will ALWAYS take a lifetime to be able to master the art of Boxing...thats why im a boxer and i love boxing, i don't like UFC

You might not like it because you have never seen it or no? Just a suggestion. The way you post you make it seem like anyone can do it. It's an art the same way boxing is a science. Any sport his hard to master and that's why when there is a trilogy in MMA it is mostly mixed where the best of 3 is 2-1 for a fighter because it is hard to master it. Don't be ignorant just because you don't watch it and that's not just to you but to other posters in this thread. I like boxing a lot and also MMA. I also like Hockey and Baseball and dislike sports like Tennis and Golf but I'm not going to say it sucks because I don't watch. I respect the people who play it even as I don't watch itComment

Dave Meltzer has a newsletter called "Wrestling Observer" he usually gets the PPV numbers from his sources. He also writes for Yahoo/MMA section he's pretty reliable. How credible is this Meltzer guy. You quoting something from 1995 in which many people did not know of even MMA back then. The fact that in 2006 the UFC broke all previous records of PPV revenue with $222,766,000 surpassing boxing and the WWE which was just about 13 or 14 years after they had started. Is that not enough competition. I mean maybe that's not enough money for some people but for others that's a lot. Also, you have to take in account and I have said this money times and many people know this, but MMA as a whole is still new in some places. It will only continue to grow and has much potential but not looking at it as a threat or competition is really a weird thing not to suggest. Just ask the WWE who was very close to reaching a deal to buy them out. That's is what happens when there is close competition. It happened to Pride and WEC when Zuffa bought them out because they were competition. No one is going to buy an organization that has no significant threat to its own
MMA and Rasslin might be in competition but I don't see Boxing and MMA being direct competition. Some people will never like boxing because they want the quick fix Ko or quick end they don't care for the bigger gloves or longer fights. Others will never like MMA because they have a problem seeing two guys on top of each other in very ****-****** positions or still believe a fight is between two men standing throwing hands.Comment

I see what you saying but wrestling is scripted and more of a sports entertainment and UFC and Boxing are more combat sports. Wrestling is just one way of martial arts and there are much different ones. The concept of MMA being very ****-****** is so different from what it is. People who say that obviously have a strong dislike for the sport because of different reasons. Experts in both don't see it that way and see the two sports as being skillfull and technical. Martial Arts have been around since the old days but only recently has there been mixed martial arts which combines all aspects of martial arts into one. So it's boxing, kick-boxing, jiu-jitsu, Muyh Tai, sambo, wrestling, karate and many other techniques all in one. The fact that HBO was about to sign a deal back in 07 with UFC is proven that they are in direct competition. Who else would boxing be in competition with? Kickboxing? No. They have to be in competition with someone and its clearly the UFC. The fact that they both fight for PPV buys and yearly revenue is proof that there is a direct competition. The fact that it is growing in the home country of boxing is a fact that their is a direct competition not to mention the fact AGAIN that they beat boxing in yearly revenue in 06. What other proof is there. I can't think of any more for now but if you want I can come up with moreDave Meltzer has a newsletter called "Wrestling Observer" he usually gets the PPV numbers from his sources. I've seen like a few posts that said UFC killed boxing in PPV revenue last year.
That's misleading and false.
I've seen a few posts say MMA is on the rise.
Once again, false. UFC's numbers/revenues were stagnant last year when compared to 2006. If anything is on the rise, it's boxing's PPV business. Take a look at the first quarter of 2008. The PPV numbers were about even between the two.
Really, the only smart post(s) made were the ones that described the demographic breakdowns between the two.Comment
