Cotto should insult Margarito's goatee then take advantage of the furious fit that ensues by throwing straight punches.

Or Cotto could do the robot dance in the middle of the first round to throw the Mexican off his game.

I should expand slightly.. This is with the idea in mind that the Top Rank brain trust see's Cotto as vulnerable. Thus all the puny-verse punchers during that stretch, and someone like Gomez to keep things warm this last time out.

They figure if he's going to lose, and they can't get Mayweather, better he loses to one of theirs. Of course, most of the fans think he will beat Margarito so we can come back to this July 27th or whatever..

i would take heed from clottey when he fought a rusty margarito.
cotto, dont stand in front of him, dont go straight back and use the uppercut and throw punches down the middle!
margarito, cotto is very susseptible to uppercuts mosley proved that with the few he thru. and stick to the body on a regular basis, he's to fast to waste going head hunting. and plan on going for the long haul!

I'm just not at all sure he can avoid getting crushed in the process.

I'm watching Cotto/Gomez again in slo-mo right now.. Alfonso was landing my no-brainer predicted right hand over the jab. He landed 3 or 4 solid ones in just the first two rounds. Unfortuntaley each of them was slightly off target and Gomez is not a big puncher. It had to be dead red. Cotto was taking some clean shots. Cotto also got caught with a decent uppercut followed by a right hook in the third round. His defense is pretty leaky still to be honest.. Cotto can't get inside without getting clipped, I can't see it. He's going to get touched by Margarito alot.
definatly, cotto switcing southpaw even confused me for a minute, but he definatly is gonna take a beating no matter what, with a workrate like margatiro's thats a given. If you rewatch it look for the funny moments though, at least four times Cotto let Gomez slip away, I mean there was no dobut he was going easy on him, e****ally at one point where he let him get out of that corner. He also started off the fight alittle ****y which I liked just because you hardly see that side of Cotto and he looks great doing it. I agree with what somebody said before about Cotto deserving somebody better than Margs, and I really feel bad for Cotto tell you the truth having to train to fight guys he knows he can beat. Until he fights floyd I really don't think hes gonna see any really good opposition, the best is probably going to be Margs.

I think he can stand and trade with Margarito. Margarito is only dangerous when he has you against the ropes. Cotto needs to stay in the pocket and beat the snot of Margarito then get on his toes, make him chase, then stand and trade and beat the snot out of him again.

Do you? HaHA.. That's optimism. Cotto has more heart and and will than Cintron, but Cintron has a better chin and greater punching power than Cotto, and we all got a chance to see what landing about 7 dozen flush power shots does to Antonio Margarito; nothing.

Cintron also has no accuracy and throws meaningful power shots about 5 times a round.

Obviously Margarito isn't getting knocked out cold, but he will get the short end of the stick because he really can't punch for ****.
