Beating Margarito From A Tactical Standpoint..

2 things will get Cotto the UD in this fight. His very good jab, and the difference in handspeed. He'll box for 12 rounds and I'm going with UD 116-112 scorecards. Also margarito telegraphs punches when on the outside and swings wildly every now and then. Cotto keeps him on the outside at the end of the jab he wins. His jab and his superior handspeed we'll get him the V. Also body work will be necessary to make sure Marg is just as tired as Cotto is from using all that ring for the full fight.

That's what I had in mind...But who knows, maybe he goes and **** with Magarito..Comment

No he wasn't. Notice that when Cintron stood still, Margarito stood still. Margarito didn't walk him to the ropes, he didn't push him around the ring. That is not the kind of fighter he is.He was pushing another big welterweight in Cintron back. Margarito will be the biggest and strongest welterweight Cotto has ever fought.
Margarito has 26 KO's out of 36 wins and has had mid to late round knockouts, he regularly throws 1000 punches per fight and doesn't lose much snap from his punches throughout the whole fight, that means he'll be dangerous for the whole fight.Comment

I don't know what fight you were watching, Cintron got pushed back to the ropes, he didn't go there voluntarily.
Edit: When Cintron stood still, was when Margarito had his best success, he landed his punches then pushed Cintron back. If Cotto wants to lose, he stays in the pocket with Margarito.Last edited by Silencers; 04-15-2008, 08:34 PM.Comment

Margarito's power is well above average, and the quantity of punches makes them damaging. Your just kidding yourself if you think he is only an average puncher.I disagree that Margarito is stronger in any facet. He doesn't push his opponents around, they just back up to get away from all the punches he throws. Cotto will have no problem pushing Margarito around the ring. He is a very sturdy fighter.
Margarito's power is very average. We have already discussed this. His only chance is to get Cotto out of there in the first few rounds. Once that adrenaline kicks in and Cotto's chin gets acclimated, Margarito is **** out of luck. Cotto has been in there with much better fighters. Much better punchers. Faster fighters.
Margarito's advantage is work rate, but we already know that throwing punches back at him makes him slowdown quite a bit.Comment

Go watch the fight again. When Cintron backs to the ropes, he does it under his own power. He doesn't get out muscled and pushed to the ropes my Margarito. Watch how every time Cintron stops in the center of ring Margarito gets in close on him and doesn't push him to the ropes.I don't know what fight you were watching, Cintron got pushed back to the ropes, he didn't go there voluntarily.

Not at all. Margarito has slightly above average power, that is it. He is a very solid fighter, but he is VERY limited in what he can do.Comment
