in all fairness, its not really "small". he just doesnt have the biggest fanbase in Boxing right now. that really is due to the persona he promotes pre fight.

Without that prefight persona he wouldnt be where he is today, like i said, alot of you havent been around since the start of his career, back when he was the humble dude who was known for a few domestic disputes etc, nobody gave a ****, then he really turned up the trash talk and backed it up, then people started paying attention to him, i think thats what your missing, without him being the **** he is and winning, nobody would give a ****, because i can remember a poll on this board from ages ago when he was easily seen as the most underrated/non-talked about fighter in the sport.

he would do well to return to some of those roots. he has enough money, now, and history will judge him much more judiciously if he starts acting like a decent human being and not an arrogant spoiled child.

Well there are subtleties you pick up on like every time he gets hit the crowd goes ape****, the fact that he gets booed the majority of the time he gets in the ring, the fact that the average Joe recently has wanted to see him lose or was disappointed when he wins once the fight is over. Floyd Mayweather is a phenomonal boxer and I am always impressed by his concentration in the ring, his accuracy and his ability to adapt to every opponent he has faced thus far. Talent and ability aside, he is so ****ing pretentious that it makes it virtually impossible to like him. Nobody likes someone who thinks they are better than everyone and anyone who disagrees is a ****ing liar. The majority of people watch Floyd fight don't tune in to see him win, they tune in to see him lose, plain and simple.

true, but that doesnt win you fans. how were RJJ, BHOP, Lewis, ODL able to gain the fanbase they have without having to resort to what Floyd has? I know they all did their share of arrogant talking, but Floyd does it to an almost insulting point. Like I said before, you can be the best at anything in the world but if no one likes you, it really doesnt mean anything. Of course, the educated boxing public may like Floyd, but the sport doesn't survive off of them. Legends and legacies are remembered and revered by the average fan.

he talks about Cotto now and isnt backing it up (the #1 ranked welter)" Cotto is a punching bag etc"..

he chooses who HE wants to fight.. Gatti, Dela, Hatton..for money.. then talks trash about them BIG DEAL..

why doesnt he back up that he is the best WW in the world and fight a top friggin WELTER WEIGHT.instead of telling us he would do this and that, so no need to fight them....then goes and fights apart time fighter and a JW? .

If sports judged every atheletes on his persona out of the arena of his profession, a good 70 percent of the guys we all know and love wouldnt even be in the hall of fame. I dont give a **** about all this personality **** and in reality neither should you, history judges results not intangibles that have nothing to do with results.

Im talking about 2000-2005, you know, the time when you probably didint even know who the **** he was. When he insulted Diego and told him "im give you a beating for all the battered women in america" or some **** like that. Thats what im talking about, little exceprts here and there would come out and his quotables began getting worse and worse, then people starting really paying him some mind.

they pay him mind because of his accomplishments. they dislike him for his high almighty attitude, his CHERRY PICKING (call me a "hater" all you want but im not alone in thinking this) and him insultiing fighters for no reason and knicking some of the greats of the sport that have paved the way for him and other great fighters.

HE and DIEGO(rip) had a BEEF...and some not trash talkling fighters will talk trash when they have a beef.. but some of the stuff Floyds says is just plain uncalled. Talking trash about Dela? WHY.he is giving you huge payday and the fight was utterly meaning less ..
