Why is Floyd's fanbase so small?

The majority of his fans are young black fans who subscribe to the whole hip hop culture because they are into the whole flashy materialistic bull**** and think how many chains or diamonds a person is wearing makes the man. His fans are very narrow minded, don't have a broad perspective and usually are the fools you see in school who have nothing going for them because their definition of a great future is owning some dubs and a platinum chain, thinking being thug is cool.

If thats the case, how do you explain years and years of history where a young fighter who is a loudmouth and wins his fights is always extremely hated?

in Robinsons day it was probably "Man those ******s rally around the one person who gives them some aura of accomplishment to a group of people who have done nothing of any worth since they got their freedom"

in ali's days i know for a fact from family account it was "that loud mouth ****** only attracts hippys and ******'s who embody his typically flamboyant personality, thats why im going for joe frazier, hes a respectable man with respectable traits who resembles what a man should be"

In Whitakers day it was "He just runs around the ring, then calls himself the best but has no knockout power, and then whines when he loses, and then has the nerve to make a claim at being the best fighter in the game when he wont even fight a real fight"

this was told to me in spanish by my friends uncle.


all the fighters i named were hated big time in their day for one reason or another, and again, the only people who clinged to them were apart of the culture they came from. I mean honestly, if you think mayweathers fans are majority teeny boppers and ****, do you think these kids are scrambling to order ppv's with all the money they have? I live in oakland, a majority black city, mayweather has fans from the young black male to the old black female, because Mayweather most reminds them of champions from the past.

Your saying fights like a Mosley fight didn't happen because of Floyd? If I remember correctly Floyd was saying he wanted Mosley but Mosley had a toothache and needed some time.

Marg at the time was completely unknown to the general public and if the fight would of materialized he would of got absolutely no credit from most so-called boxing fans on this site. I can't understand how someone who won a vacant belt be considered the #1 WW without any note worthy opponents on his resume.
And as far as the Cotto fight is concerned give it a little bit of time that fight will definately come off. Too much money for Floyd to turn down.

So as far as who Ali and Toney fought well they fought top names that the general public who followed boxing knew of and wanted those fights and besides that there wasn't as much politics in boxing as there is now.

I don't know too many older black people who like Mayweather, the ones I know who do are the same ****s who have the mentality of a goldfish and think its cool when a rapper gets shot and that makes him hard. A person who is cool is cool regardless of skin color. I don't see why many people put it in themselves to try and act "black" as many people put it and they just enforce a negative stereotype. Shane Mosley is a nice dude, does his thing in the ring, isn't ****y and is always willing to talk to his fans or media. I don't see anyone making the same claims about him. I rarely meet people who disliked Leonard, Marvin Hagler and he wasn't the type that most black people like to refer to as "house negros".


I do agree about Robinson and Ali however but even regardless a lot of people liked Ali that were white and he was always talking negatively about white people and how he would never pray to a white god.

Do you think Floyd will ever get an ovation with 1/1000th of the intensity that Hatton got? Floyd has no evident fan base. No one cheers him, no one would go out of their way to go to England to support him. His only fans seem to be like a few oddballs in boxing forums.

They all came to see Hatton, they all paid to see Oscar.

Floyd piggy backs by fighting big superstars with huge followings. It remains to be seen if Floyd captures Hatton's and Oscar's fans and adds them to his fanbase. I doubt it.

Fighters like Tyson, Tito, Duran, Cotto, Oscar when you see them you almost get chills knowing how great they are. Fans go nuts when they see them, and they get huge cheers when they are at ringside for fights. Mayweather gets nothing even remotely close. And ten or 20 yers down the road, I don't think he;ll get it either. Fans just don't warm up to the guy for some reason.

he doesnt care about hardcore fans, he has enough people that are willing to pay 50$ to see him fight. and he does have a lot of casual fans who like to see him fight. plus he gets a lot of attention from the millions who are obsessed with him and pretend to hate him like yourself, people who go on a message board and make topic after topic about a guy they claim to despise.
