hatton was as dirty as floyd was and cortez only seperated them when one had the arm around the other fighter or under the arm and you don't need to clinch to get in the inside and fight. there are plenty of times when hatton is all over floyd and cortez says nothing because hatton is throwing punches but whenever hatton would stop punching and grab floyd then cortez would seperate and did you see how much hatton was holding the rope that is also illegal
Replay: Cortez still ******

Are people STILL whining about this fight? Jesus dude, give it up already. A true welterweight? Whatever. Mayweather at 140 would have beat Hatton in probably 8 rounds or less.Just watched the replay. In previous posts, I've "manned up". Ok? Floyd fought a great fight, especially after round 7. But, after seeing that fight again, Joe Cortez deserves another round of condemnation. I'm sorry...CORTEZ SUCKS. He embarrassed the sport with that incredibly biased performance. A true Richard Steele moment.
2:27 into Round 2: Floyd bends down, sticking his head underneath Hatton's arms. Cortez breaks them up yet again and yells at Hatton:
"When he goes down, move out!"
What the hell? Since when is it mandatory in boxing that everytime your opponent bends over into your stomach, you have to back up??
---------
Lampley Round 2: "One wonders if Cortez is going to let Hatton fight his kind of fight. Cortez seems to be breaking them up everytime they get into close quarters."
Lampley Round 3: "Again, one wonders if Cortez is going to let them fight where Hatton likes to fight. "I've never seen Joe Cortez work this hard."
---------
Thank you Lampley. You finally got something right.
The lasting impression of that fight will forever be after the fight when Mayweather has his arm around Cortez' neck, like best friends. After a moment, Cortez blushingly steps away. LOL
Oh, well...........bring on Cotto. Floyd showed us he will stand in and trade...he did show grit. Now, it's time for Floyd to fight a real top flight welterweight for once. It's time to prove up the resume.
I, like many other people on this site, have told you that Mayweather can hit. That he had deceptive power. But you wouldn't listen. And now that Hatton got his **** peeled, the excuses still come. Cotto fanboys and Mayweather haters will be in the same boat, probably in the summer of 08. "How did that just happen?" type of deal. When Mayweather does beat Cotto, will the hate stop? Or will it be another, "Well, Mayweather hasn't fight insert fighters name here" so he isn't a great fighter type of bull****.
I'm patiently waiting. And once again, I'm not riding Mayweathers nuts. But I saw the writing on the wall a LONG time ago. That Mayweather was a special fighter. Big mouth and ego aside, the man just does the damn thing.
So blame it on Joe Cortez. Blame it on the ring post. Blame who you have got to blame to make you sleep better at night. I call it 99% the better fighter won, and 1% karma for the Kostya Tszyu fight.Comment

I'm tired of you n!ggaz making excuses for Hatton by bashing Cortez, **** outta here, Cortez did his job, he could have been harder on Floyd but y'all actually want to make him seem wrong for stopping someone from cheating? clinching excessively is a CHEAT, you only supposed to clinch WHEN YOU HAVE TO not just to base your whole fight game behind it, Hatton did that to himself, he made himself lose by not bringing a plan B and KNOWING that his whole hit and clinch stryle wont work.. it pissess me off to know some of you actually are mad about Hatton being stopped from cheating, it's liuke saying GO **** FLOYD AND DON'T DO **** ABOUT IT JUST LET HIM GET ****ED AND LEAVE IT AT THAT, LET RICKY CHEAT AND FLOYD LOSe, that **** is ****ing ****** because while YES Cortez could have been harder on Floyd NO does Hatton get a chance to pull off some lame **** like punching and tieing up both of Floyd's arms once he's done hitting to prevent Floyd from hitting him back, NO!!!!!!... 100Comment

man im happy floyd landed those elbows, hatton wanted to fight inside and eat floyd, he ate elbows.
Floyd adapts and wins end of story, if ricky was such a in-fighter those things wouldnt bother him.
Hatton was coming forward so much that he didnt have room to punch, very ******, floyd made room very smart and landed short punches. Floyd was the bodypuncher and beat hatton at his game.Comment

All you suckers who wanted Hatton to win wanted him to win his usual dirty way........head in face and holding.........holding and hitting.......rabbit punches.......yeah that makes it so funny when Floyd PLAYED him at his own game.........makes me laugh

WTF are you guys complaining about? Cortez may not of did the best ref job but he let the action go on in the later rds. Are guys just mad that He wouldn't let Hatton wrestle and hit and hold? Cortez warned both fighters through out the fight but Hatton gets a point taking away for intentionally
trying to hit Floyd in the back of the head.Comment

Cortez was awful - very biased.
Hatton still would have lost with unbiased Cortez however.
Although the real question - if it was a differnt ref - would Hatton have got frustrated, sloppy and then knocked out?
Different ref = UD Mayweather.
End of convo.Comment
