We all knew that Rickys chances would come down to what fight he would be allowed to fight. He knew that there would be a good chance that he wouldnt get away with his mugging style of fighting. He wasnt allowed to fight how he likes to, and that made him a sitting duck to Floyd. I dont think Cortez was bought off, but I think he aired on the safe side. Since he didnt let Hatton fight rough, all he has to do to silence critics is say he was following the rules. But if he let Hatton fight a rough house style fight and he had beat Floyd, people could claim that Cortez didnt stop Ricky from fouling. Cortez really couldnt say much to deflect that argument. So he played it safe. If and that is a huge if, someone could prove the ref or judges were bought off, then that would be one thing, but otherwise Ricky just got the short end of the stick that night. Simple as that.
