Hatton - Mayweather how you see that playing out again? If I remember correctly you were saying somethign about it being a clinch fest....let's hear tyour analysis [/QUOTE]
Yes, that is what I predicted. Mayweather by boring and potentially close decision. Mayweather potshots hatton as he comes in, then defensively clinches with the offensively clenching hatton. Hatton could take the fight if he was Cotto's size, but unfortunatly he is just too small to make this kind of fight work for him.
Mayweather wont be able to really hurt him bad, but the damage will accumulate over the rounds. It will be an uncomfortable fight for Floyd with Floyd getting hit more than he is use to getting hit, but Hattons punches on the inside will look like desperate work compared to the clean flush punches he gets caught with coming in.
I dont think Floyd will use his feet much in this fight, I think he plans to fight most of this fight off of the ropes, starting in the center of the ring, drawing Hatton in, walking him into a right hand, clench, hatton flurries, ref breaks, repeat.
I really hope I am wrong about this fight though. I would absolutely LOVE to see Mayweather on the canvas holding his liver. That would absolutely make my year.
I think that having to cut so much weight for every fight has started to catch up with Ricky Hatton. He doesn't have the same zest in the ring as he use to.
His capacity to do work inside the ring seems to be eroding. You must remember, Ricky Hatton is a swarmer. His ability to win fights depends on his ability to apply non-stop pressure throughout a fight.
In his last 3 fights, he just doesn't seem to have that kind of energy about him.
One of the key factors I see alot of people neglecting in analysis is response.
For example:
Hatton will apply pressure
How will Floyd react? Floyd will back up to the ropes, as he has done in every other pressure situation. Is this bad? No, it works to Floyd's advantage, as he is comfortable in that situation.
Floyd will tag Hatton with hooks and right hands as he tries to come inside.
How will Hatton react? Hatton will try and grab onto one of Floyds arms to prevent him from punching.
ect...
You really have to get down to the nuances of each fighters habits. No matter how much a fighter says he will change his habbits, he never will.
Just look at Jermain Taylor, how many times did he insist that he would keep his left hand high for his fight with Pavlik? What did he do? He kept his left and low like he always has and always will.
Floyd will not stop backing up from constant pressure, and Hatton will not stop trying to hold offensively.
Some people will say, Floyd doesn't always back up to pressure fighters. Yes, he does. It is true that Floyd will stand in the middle of the ring and trade with you, but a fighter that is trying to stand and trade with you is different than a fighter that i trying to apply pressure. Floyd always has, and always will back up when pressure is applied.
For most guys, this wouldn't be that big of a problem, they could meter their energy (Bernard Hopkins), but for a swarmer, it spells disaster.
Swarmer tend to have shorter careers, not necessarily because of the punishment they take, but because as soon as they lose their capacity for work, they have no other answers.
I think Ricky Hatton is losing his capacity for work, due in part to his lifestyle.
There is my reason as to why Ricky Hatton is past his prime.

There is really only one important thing to look at when determining how this fight will play out, Ricky's holding habits.
Ricky Hatton is an offensive holder, meaning he grabs on to one of your arms to neutralize any offensive capabilities you have when he comes in for his attack.
Floyd Mayweather, as demonstrated in the De La Hoya fight, is a defensive holder. This means that he usually grabs onto your right arm when you put him against the ropes and try to hammer him.
What does this mean? Floyd will tag Ricky while he gets inside, Ricky will grab Floyd's left arm, while Floyd grabs Rickys right arm.
In essence they will both be attempting to clench at the same time.
Ricky will hammer away with left hooks to the body, while Floyd will pot shot him with right uppercuts. When Floyd has had enough, he will grab Ricky's left arm and force the ref to break them, starting the process all over again.
This will be a boring fight, unless Ricky completely forgoes the left hook, and tries to make the fight all about uppercuts, in which case it might be interesting.
Most likely, Floyd will win by UD, with the judges favoring his clean shots landed while Ricky tries to get inside. A good fight to watch for how the action will play out, is Roman Karmizan v Cory Spinks. Not exactly how the fight will look, but an example of a game plan based on defensive holding.

That is an accurate statement. Mayweather holds just as much as Hatton on the inside, but for different reasons. Mayweather holds for defense. Hatton holds for offense.
For this reason, I think this fight will be an appallingly boring clinch fest. Every time Hatton gets inside, He will grab one of Mayweathers arms, then Mayweather will grab his free arm.
Press conference "war of words"... how much do you buy into it?
I saw a reference just now on another thread that BoreHard dissing The Blow at the Paler/Gayleather weigh-in was what finally spurred on their fight.
I mean, Christ up me arsehole, I'm sure that's how it works.
It's like with 24/7 and all the surrounding media talking about Floyd being forced out of retirement by Hatton calling him out after Castillo. "Get me that ****ing fight!"
Team Hatton referred to the fight as being "two years of negotiations". His contact was even a three-fight deal for exposure in the US, with a view to fighting Floyd.
All the rest of it is just BULL**** to sell the fight.
I mean, you've got one of the most boring ****s in boxing today with Hopkins (sorry, but he is) against someone who's relatively unknown in the US as he hasn't yet "cum 2 da state's to proov he can fite, lamo, pwn!"
So like a pair of batty boys they orchestrate a slanging match on a much more hyped event, the next thing you know it's signed and there's "bad blood" between them.
I always believed that floyd is a great boxer, have never doubt it. But yesterday he proved to be one of the best of boxing history. I thought mayweather was going to win on points boxing hatton all night, but he proved just how sharp and accurate his punches are. He doesn´t have that devastating power, but he does have that amazing sense of timing and precision, and the result was what we all saw, that beautiful counter going backwards. Also he proved that his defense is just sick....he was all night on hattons range and is amazing how much he made him miss. Also other thing that mayweather has is how he quickly adapts on fights. I had hatton winning 2-1 on the first 3 rounds, but after that it was almost all mayweather. He started to feel much more comfortable on the close range and started to make hatton miss a lot and as always his accuracy was superb.
I really dislike the guy, but also i realized that he really is not that big of an ******* as how he shows himself on the tv. He just like to sell the image only.
On hatton, i think he did a great fight, he did a very good job and did what he should have done. But, mayweather is just too much :P. Also what shows that hatton dis great, was that he pulled out the best off mayweather on the fight.
worse ref ever? what he did last night for floyd and hattons fight was awful bad refering.
Hatton got deducted a point for hitting the rope? he didnt even hit him in the back of the head then at the end of the round mayweather hits him in the back of the head.
Round 2 hatton hurt mayweather with a punch then he kept breaking them up all the time interuppting them fighting.
It was like the fight was going to be decided by the ref he kept breaking them up i duno why he jus didnt let them fight.
I mean did he not see mayweather puttin his elbow and foreman in hattons neck the whole time?
There was so much hittin from the back of the head hatton and mayweather and courtiz didnt deduct a point from mayweather at all but then he deducts one from hatton when he doesnt even hit him.
This is a simple FACT. Besides being defensive oriented, Floyd has brittle hands. He even mention his hands in the post-fight. Floyd doesn't want to break his hands early in the fight so in the back of his mind hes conscious. Later in the fight is when he puts combinations together because he simply cannot afford to break it in the early rounds because usually in his fights it goes the distance.
